Make sure that you send a Thank You Card for all of those nice gifts you got this year! Learn how to scrap it fast too! This is a nice activity that you can have your children help with too!

Send a Personalized Thank You Card for a special thank you to those that gave you gifts!

Now the holiday are coming to an end, you might want to have your child or your family send out personalized Thank You cards to those that gave you gifts!

Today if you look online you can find lots of great PDF Documents that can make fun digital scrapbooking supplies like a Thank You card!

Here is one way to make a Thank You Card using a FREE PDF document.

5 Steps to Scrapping PDF files:

Step 1: Go to the website that has the PDF document you want use in your scrapbooking project like scrapping a Thank You card, and save it to your computer.

If you are following along with this article go to FamilyFun.com’s Photo Thank You Frame and then save the document to your computer. Use the save button or go to File > Save

Save the document to a place on your computer that you can find easily.

Step 2: Next, open the PDF document in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Note: the following steps will work basically the same in Photoshop or Elements even though the demonstration will be focused on how-to in Elements

Next a pop-up in Photoshop Elements will appear, click on the document icon, make and select the settings and click OK

If you are using Photoshop instead of Elements, then you will do the same thing, click on the document icon, make and select the settings and click OK

Step 3: Select the Thank You card with the Rectangular Marquee Tool. Because the PDF Documents has some extra writing on it, and we only want the Thank You card using the Rectangular Marquee Tool in this example can help us select only the Frame.

Also notice that when this PDF is in either Photoshop or Elements the white areas are now transparent!

Step 4: Make a New Document regular paper size 8.5×11” with a white background.

Next take the Thank You card is selected, then with the Move Tool drag and drop it on to new scrapbooking document. or

Now your scrapbooking project should look like this:

Step 5: Scrap It and Print It! Add your photo, text, then print the Thank You card in your home printer. Fold it and write your own text in the inside. Put in an envelope and mail to that luck person!

It is fun to learn about using PDF files, and Thank You cards are also a great idea for a quick and very simple card.

While this kind of card is cute, why not learn how to make better Thank You Card?

Sometimes we want to make even more personalized then just taking a premade PDF file. For example, we want to scrap a whole card, using our special scrapbooking paper and embellishments.

We might even want to know how to scrap on the back of the card and fold it properly. How about making 2 cards per US Paper size? What type of envelope do we use? These questions are easy answered with the right training!

(Originally Posted 6/22/2010 by Cheri Barlow)

If you are a gardener like me, then you might like to turn some of your seed packets into digital scrapbook embellishments!

You can scan one seed packet at a time (like we mentioned in yesterdays blog), or you scan a couple of images at a one time in Photoshop Elements!

However, unless you can separate your multiple images, after they are scanned together they will become one image in Photoshop Elements!

Learn how to Scan Multiple images and Separate them in Photoshop Elements:

If you don’t know how to scan multiple images and separate them – it is very easy.

Let me give you that information – so you, like me can save some time and start working on those seed packets that you want to turn into digital scrapbooking embellishments!

First, add several of seed packets on a scanner bed, leave some space between the packets.

Next open up your Photoshop Elements software program.

Once you have opened Photoshop Elements In Editor Mode, you will need to scan the photos or images to your scanner

Go to FILE > IMPORT > “YOUR PRINTER”

If you have multiple printers/scanners, you will need to look through the list of printer/scanner options, and choose the scanner that you would like use to scan the images, photos or in this case seed packets.

Next, A pop-up menu will appear. Select Preview (see arrow in red) to view the scanned images (seed packets) and to make the adjustments

Move the boxes that surround the photo until it fits the way that you would like it around your picture

Then select Scan (see other arrow in red) to begin scanning.

The scanned images will appear in the work area, but the images are as one combined photo.

Don’t stop now – you are so close!

Next, go to the top menu and select Image > Divide Scanned Photos

Photoshop Elements will separate each of the individual images (seed packets), and put them in their own separate window. All you have to do is save each one and then you have all the images scanned and separated!

This is a very easy way to scan multiple images and to separate them quickly!

Plus Photoshop Elements is very good at getting the photos aligned straight, even if they are not put in the scanner that way!

This is a great tip for saving some time!

Now save them individually, and scrap your seed packets into a nice digital scrapbooking page!

Hope you try this at home with Photoshop Elements and you will quickly see how fun it is to add your own seed packets to your digital scrapbooking projects!

So, learn how to scan a flower seed packet into Photoshop and turn it into a digital scrapbooking embellishment! See the following article for step by step instructions:

Now that it is is summer and if you like me are, planting flowers and vegetable gardens, then you might like to have some embellishments that match your garden.

It is easy and fun to make your own digital scrapbooking embellishments from scanned seed packets in Photoshop!

Follow along these simple steps in Photoshop so you can make your own digital scrapbooking Embellishment for your flower or Vegetable garden digital scrapbooking projects!

Here are the steps to do it:

First turn on your scanner, and add seed packet on your scanner bed.

If possible try to make it straight and in a good place on your scanner glass.

Close the lid and get ready to scan it using Photoshop and not the scanning software that came with your scanner!

Next open up your Photoshop software program.

Once you have opened Photoshop, you will need to scan the seed packet into your scanner

Go to FILE > IMPORT > WIA Support

Then, a Pop up window will appear. Select the file you want the photo to go to. If you need to browse to a new one select the Browse Button and go to the folder you want. Select the options and push the Start Button.

See Where you can get 3 FREE Fonts!

One of the things we mentioned in that article was colorizing your font and text to create more dramatic digital scrapbooking projects. This allows for coloring the parts of the text with different colors!!
So you don’t just have a font that is only one color!!

Today we are going to talk about How to Add Multi-Colors when using certain fonts and creating dramatic text for your next digital scrapbooking project!

How to Add Multi-Colors to Text!!!

How to Fill in a Font with Color in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements
(Originally posted 6/4/2010 by Cheri Barlow)

Sometimes when we are digitally scrapbooking we find a fun font to use that has some space in it.

This works mainly when a font has some extra space inside the letters or in any parts of the designs around the letters that include empty space.

That space can quickly be colored to enhance our design if you follow these easy steps.

Eight Easy Steps to Color the Extra Space in some Fonts:

Step 1: Open up your digital scrapbooking project in Photoshop Elements or Photoshop.

Note: I will be illustrating these steps in Elements but you can easily do these same steps in Photoshop too!

Step 2: Next select the Text Tool in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Pick a font that has some space in it – for this example my computer had a font called BalloonEFDropShadow (#1). You can see that it has space (#2) within the font that would be nice to color.

Take a look at this font sample – see the space in the lettering? This will be nice for my scrap project.

You may or may not have this font on your computer, so look for any font that has some space in it if you want to follow along.

Step 3: Set the size and other options for this font, like size, color and other options.

Step 4: Once the option are set then draw out your type box and type in your text.

Step 5: Next go to the layer panel and right-click on the text layer in Photoshop Elements then select Simplify Layer

Note: in Photoshop you need to do something slightly different. First, go to the layer panel and right-click on the text layer, and then select Rasterize Type

Special Note for both Photoshop or Elements Users: Make sure you are done editing the text before doing this step, as it will be not be editable as text after this step!

Step 6: Pick a Color to fill font. Go to the color picker and select a color you would like to fill your font with.

Step 7: Select the Paint Bucket tool and pour the color into all the spaces in the font you want filled.

Continue till you have all the spaces in the font filled

Step 8: Add layer styles if you want to text for more dramatic effects. Here I added a drop shadow.

An alternative to filling all the space in the font is to select only a few areas in the font to fill like the example below in Photoshop.

However when you decide to fill in your font spaces it could make your design more interesting than just leaving them blank!

See the font before we colored the spaces

See the font after we colored the spaces

You can see that this can add quite a bit of design to your digital scrapbooking project to add color to the space in a font

Step 8: Add layer styles to your filled text for more dramatic effects. In the image below I added a drop shadow to make the text pop on the page!

Now we are done and can enjoy our digital scrapbooking page!

If you have a font that has some space in it – then try this easy way to make it look more fun!

Enjoy!

The article gave some good ideas for family activities to celebrate this fun holiday and it also gave some ideas for photo-taking and scrapping the holiday, even some ideas for scrapbooking kits!

So today I want to show you a little scrapbooking trick, how to add a extra strong shadow in your Groundhog scrapbooking projects!

Follow these 4 Steps to add a Dramatic Shadow to your Groundhog Day Project!

In 4 easy steps add a Strong Shadow to your Digital Scrapbooking Project using Photoshop Elements or Photoshop!

Step 1: Scrap your digital scrapbooking page and select the item to add a strong shadow too.

In the example above I have scrapped a digital scrapbooking page in Photoshop Elements.

Next I select this embellishment that is a image of a groundhog running from his shadow. Right now the image below does not have a drop shadow on it, so the image is flat.

Step 2: Select the layer and add a Drop shadow to this image or embellishment.

So, in the Layers panel select the layer (image layer) to add a drop shadow to (See #1 in the image)

Next, select the drop shadow from the Effects Panel and push the Apply button (See #2 in the image)

Then you will see and FX on the layer you just applied a drop shadow to (See #3 in the image)

What this does in Elements is apply a standard drop shadow.

Take a look at the next image to see the effect.

“Adding a regular drop shadow to the layer”

This does the following:

In the image above the regular drop shadow gives the image a 3-D effect and shadows go off the image a bit.

Step 3: Making the Drop Shadow more Dramatic!

Select the layer and click on the FX button

This will open a menu up that you can make adjustments to dramatically increase the drop shadow on your layer

Step 4: Set Drop Shadow Settings for a more dramatic effect.

For example, you might want to increase the Distance slider, and/or the Size slider to get a more dramatic shadow effect.

When you are done adjusting your drop shadow click the OK button!

Now the Groundhog can really run away from his shadow!!!

This same technique works in Photoshop too!

Add a Dramatic Shadow in Photoshop too!

In Photoshop it works much the same way, select the layer you want to add a drop shadow too and click the FX button at the bottom of the Layers Panel

Next when the pop up menu appears, adjust the drop shadow setting for dramatic effect.

(#1) Select Drop Shadow, (#2) use the sliders to create a dramatic shadow, (#3) you can see the effect on menu, and on the item on your digital scrapbooking project, (#4) when you are done click the OK button

Now you have a shadow worthy of a Groundhog in Photoshop too!

For example, you might want to cut a shape into your scrapbooking paper and put a colored background and photo behind it, like the example to the left.

If you had planned to make this type of scrap project at the beginning of the project no problem, just add the layers in that order with a transparent background to start with. However, sometimes we scrap with the paper first. No problem, if you change your design into the scrapbooking – just convert the digital paper background to a regular layer and then convert a colored layer to a background layer.

So in this article learn how to make another layer into the background layer after you have started your project with another background layer.

(Note: this works in Photoshop too, but our examples are in Photoshop Elements 9)

Step 1: Convert the original background layer to a regular layer.

You can’t convert a layer into the Background layer if the image already has a Background layer.

In this case, you must first convert the existing Background layer into a regular layer.

(See how to do this by reading this blog article: Quick Tip: Convert the Background layer into a regular layer )

So first, change the background layer to a regular layer ( #1), then move the layer above the layer you are going to turn in to the new background layer. ( #2)

Step 2: Select the new bottom layer and turn it into the background layer

After you have selected the bottom layer, in the Edit workspace, select a layer in the Layers panel.

Then choose Layer > New > Background From Layer.

Now the layer will be converted to the NEW Background Layer!

Special Note: Any transparent areas in the original layer are filled with the background color.

See the area that is transparent in this example: Look what happens and how it is filled with the background color when the layer is turned into a background layer

Step 3: Scrap your project

Once you have your new background layer go ahead and finish scrapping your project

Remember this works in Photoshop too!

Try this Quick Tip and see if this helps your scrapbooking layouts when you want to change the design after you have started scrapbooking!

How to Make Digital scrapbooking Paper out of Candy Corn!
~ by Cheri Barlow

Want to make some digital scrapbooking paper to celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving or other Fall Digital Scrapbooking projects using the classic candy corn candy?

If you are interested in learning how to do this – then read on!

Six Steps to Make a Digital Scrapbooking Paper!

Making digital scrapbooking paper out of candy corn is very easy! Here are the steps to doing it.

Step 1: Grab your digital camera, candy corn and get the paper background ready. Lay out the candy on one or two pieces of paper. Good colors for the paper background are yellow, orange, white, or black depending on the effect your would like. the candy will not fit perfectly together and some of the paper color will show through.

In this example I choose yellow so the background would blend in and be less noticeable. then start pouring your candy corn on the paper.

Step 2: Arrange the candy for the paper design. Dumping out the candy on the paper helps keep the random look, but smooth out candy by pressing it down on with your hands.

Fill in any of the open spaces with candy. If you see any candies that have defects – don’t necessarily throw them away! Sometimes the differences add character to your design!

Step 3: Take different shots of the candy! Zoom in, zoom out, take the photo in different positions. When you have lots of photos to choose from you can pick the perfect one to make the digital paper!

Step 4: Load the images on your computer and bring the images into Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to edit.

In this example we brought our image into Photoshop Elements and we cropped and edited it until we had a digital scrapbooking paper that was – 11 x 8.5 (perfect for home printing!) and resolution at 300 ppi in case we want to send it to an outside professional printer too!

Step 5: Bring digital photos and other digital supplies in and make a digital scrapbooking page!

In this example I brought in some cute digital photos of a special trick-or-treaters eating candy, also I brought in other digital scrapbooking supplies and made a digital scrapbooking page.

Use your home printer and some photo paper to print out nice digital scrapbooking pages to share.

If you want to make a bound scrapbooking album or nice gifts from your digital scrapbooking page you might try a online printing company like Snapfish.com
