Set up a tripod and use a remote to capture the looks on faces as the game progresses. Groundhog Cookies Recipe

2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup soft butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg yolk
1 egg, slightly beaten
Currants or raisins

Sift together first seven ingredients. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Blend in molasses and yolk. Stir in flour mixture and mix well. Form into a ball.Wrap in plastic wrap. Chill overnight, several nights or freeze. Place small amounts of dough on a sheet of plastic wrap, and cover with plastic wrap.

Roll 1/8 inch thick. Cut out cookies with lightly floured cutter.Place cookies on greased baking sheet. Brush with slightly beaten egg. Decorate with currants or raisin eyes. Repeat until all dough is used.Bake 8 to 10 minutes in a preheated 350-degree oven. Cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet. Makes 72 or more medium-sized groundhogs.

Here is a revised Gluten Free version I made:

Gluten Free Groundhog Cookies

2 cups mixed all purpose gluten free flour (If your GF flour mix does not have xanthan gum then add 1/2 tsp. to this recipe)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon gluten free baking powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup soft butter or non-dairy alternative, room temperature (e.g. Earth Balance Buttery Sticks)
1 cup sugar (Try Beet Sugar if Allergic to Cane Sugar)
1/2 cup 100% pure (or gluten free) molasses
1 egg yolk (or egg substitute like Ener-G EggReplacer)
1 egg, slightly beaten (or egg substitute like Ener-G EggReplacer)
Currants or raisins

Sift together first seven ingredients. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Blend in molasses and yolk. Stir in flour mixture and mix well. Form into a ball. Wrap in plastic wrap. Chill overnight, several nights or freeze. Place small amounts of dough on a sheet of plastic wrap, and cover with plastic wrap. Roll 1/8 inch thick. Cut out cookies. Today Make a resolution or Goal to Scrap a Digital Scrapbooking Page each month!

It is a good time to set a goal that you can keep!

Yes, this goal is easy and fun to set and keep! That is to Scrap at least one digital scrapbooking page per month!

If I do that at the end of the year I will have enough digital scrapbooking pages to make digital calendar or a scrap album!

It was easy to accomplish my goal because at Digital Scrapbooks and More they sale lots of great supplies, but I think I will take a shortcut and use Quick Pages! Now you can create pretty digital scrapbooking projects very FAST with Quick Page Kits!

My goal or resolution started a few years back because prior to making this commitment I ran into this problem: being to busy in December to make all my scrapbooking pages and scrap gifts.

Not being ready at the end of the year also made me miss out on great discounts at my favorite online printing companies!

So, I ended up having to spend lots more money because I needed more time to scrap my pages, and missed the discount! Sadly sometimes I even missed the Holiday I was trying to scrap for because I couldn’t get ready at the last moment!!!

As a digital scrapbookers, I like to make interesting scrapbooking gifts as holiday presents for all of my friends and family (like personalized calendars, puzzles, mouse pads, coffee mugs, aprons, greeting cards, framed scrap pages, or photo/digital scrapbooking albums). It’s around that time that I receive emailed-coupons from many online printing companies offering huge discounts on the exact items I had been hoping to create and buy for others!

However, most of the time I end up missing these incredible online printing discounts for two unfortunate reasons:

First, these personalized gifts require a finished digital scrapbooking page in order to personalize the calendar, mug, or gift that is being so heavily discounted; and many times I just don’t have any new digital scrapbooking pages ready!

These special holiday discounts usually expire quickly maybe even that very same day, or just a few days later; which sometimes is not nearly enough time to pull all the pictures together and digitally scrap!

The second reason is that when the deals show-up in my email inbox, it is usually the busiest time of year (with the holidays, family, friends, dinner parties, work parties, cooking this, eating that, and always being on-the-go!), and I am not always on my computer checking my email with everything I have going on! Sometimes I feel so rushed to participate in a spectacular online printing deal, and it’s so frustrating to be overwhelmed at such an already busy (and sometimes stressful) time of year!

The bottom line is that if I had some pre-made digital scrapbooking pages that were already ready-to-go, then when those wonderful sales showed up in my inbox, I could take full-advantage of them without feeling rushed, or without skipping the opportunity all-together!

In prior years I missed the sales and discounts, but this year because I had get my goal of scrapping at least one scrap page a month I was able to take advantage of all the great deals! Plus I wasn’t exhausted because I had planned ahead!!

So, that said, I am going to keep this same goal this year too! So my goal for this up-and-coming year: I WILL SCRAP ONE DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING PAGE PER MONTH (and more than one page if I have time… but I can at least scrap one page!)

It doesn’t take much time to scrap one page. I usually take new digital photos every month, so it’s not like I don’t have new pictures that need to be scrapped! Not to mention, at the end of the month, last month’s digital scrapbooking supplies are often discounted; so I could buy them at a discounted rate and then scrap them each month.

Another good reason to do one each month is so that I don’t have to wait until the busiest time of the year (the end of the year) to scrap all of my digital photos from a busy and eventful year! Scrapping one page per month will give me time to relax and enjoy the holidays, instead of procrastinating and waiting until the last month to scrap all of that year’s activities.

And last, but not least, by scrapping one page per month I can always take advantage of the fabulous discounts on gifts made from my scrapbooking pages at the end of the year, now that I will be prepared with plenty of great digitally scrapped projects!

The great thing about digital scrapbooking is that I can take one digital scrapped page and make lots of fun gifts! Wow, that saves time! Maybe you have noticed all the items I have made in this article that have come from the same digital scrapbooking page?! If not then take a second look! Accomplish your Goal by Using Quick Pages!

I am determined to capture the memory of my sons’ senior year and make it a year that our family will remember forever. So I am scrapping a few images each month of his Senior year, and when he graduates I will have all the scrap pages printed and bound into a lovely album. Football and Digital Scrapbooking

Who can think about September without thinking about football? In our home football is something we eat drink and sleep. Not the NFL teams so much, but our hometown football team.

Our son is a Senior this year. He is a starter on our High School Football team that my husband happens to coach.

So this year I think it is a great idea to add a football page to his Senior scrapbook that I am making to surprise him at the end of the year. This will be the September section in the scrapbooking album.

I will add a few digital scrapbooking pages in this section of the album.

I think it would be fun to add some old photos that I scanned of him when he was a little boy dressing up and playing football and include his current photo too! See the info on the mobile scanner towards the bottom of this article!

He has always loved the sport! And I think he will enjoy seeing old photos in his special album along the new ones too!

As I scrap my September pages I am going to focus on his Senior football picture. I am so excited for this page. I may even add a picture of him in his letterman’s jacket.

I know that September is going to be one of my favorite months to scrap for him. With back to school Senior pictures and football photos as the first two or three pages in the album I can’t go wrong!

I think I will do some extra fun digital scrapping and use some sports brushes (Sports Custom Brush Set) in Elements to make my digital pages! See what my scrap page looks like after I have scrapped with some custom brushes. The Go Team is a custom brush too!

It also makes me so excited for what is to come in my digital scrapbooking adventure of scrapping a couple of pages for my son’s album.

Next month I am looking forward to the homecoming dance and Halloween activities.

Each month is going to go by so fast, however I refuse to let them just slip away as I am saving these precious memories by digital scrapbooking them.

So bring on the Senior activities and GO RAMS! (or whatever you favorite team may be).

4 Tips to Create fantastic summer memories at your next Cookout, BBQ or Picnic

Tip 1: Keep Your Food Fresh. One thing that really can ruin memories quickly is food that spoils because it is not kept at safe temperatures. One example that stands out in my mind, when I was a teen I was at a family cookout where the main dish was grilled fish. That was great except for the fact that the raw fish wasn’t kept cold enough before it was grilled and sat under
a tree for hours before it was grilled. It spoiled the fish and the family became very sick shortly thereafter. Not fun. Unfortunately, this simple cookout step did not create fun summer memories, and everyone who attended remembers how sick they got! To this day, my father still can’t eat any fish because of this unfortunate experience! So, remember to keep
foods fresh and cold so that you can Digitally Scrap photos later that won’t bring back unpleasant memories!

This might be a new family game, a new food, or anything that sets your event apart from other ones in the past. Adding something new makes special new memories and gets others excited about the BBQ, Cookout or Picnic’s festivities.

My sister-in-law created a fun event for us one year that really pumped some fun into our typical family reunions. She separated the girl from the boys and assigned each group to go around the reunion with tape recorders, digital cameras, and
video recorders to interview family members at the picnic.

The questions were different for the two groups and included questions like, “Find Aunt Cheri and ask her what her favorite song is and the last one she listened to on her iPod” or “Locate Grandma and ask her when she knew she was in love with Grandpa”.

At the end of the reunion she had lots of great Digital Photos, recorded interviews, and video of all the family members at the reunion … plus, it was a entertaining activity that was new and exciting– instead of all regular, typical family reunion games!

Tip 3: Record the Event with your Digital Camera and Video Camera. It is so sad to have the best memories and not have any photos of the great event. I wonder how we can let so many special times go unrecorded. If you forget your camera then take out your cell phone and snap some photos anyway.

Make it a habit to bring your camera with you everywhere. Throw it in your purse and try to keep it with you. Think of it like your cell phone and bring it with you as much as you can. Your digital camera is the best bet for Digitally Scrapbooking your special summer memories!

Bonus Tip: I am a total Digital Camera snob, but out of experience, I know it’s smart to always have a “throw away camera” in my trunk just in case! If I forget my good camera, I always have an emergency-back up so I never have to miss any priceless,memory-making moments.

Here are few products that might help you even take better photos to hang on to precious Cookout memories:

• Get a tripod! No need to leave anyone out of the BBQ photos! Get everyone in your pictures by using a tripod. • Get a Digital SLR Camera. This camera is expensive, but more than worth it if you want hardcore, professional-looking photos. Once you see how great the photos are with higher-end digital camera, it will be hard to go back to anything else!

Two reasons why we like Digital SLRs … first, the shutter speeds are faster (which means less blurry photos, better action shots… like when the kids play tag football or are just being kids!).  The second reason, is the ability to use a different lens, like the close up lens that can focus super-close on a butterfly on a flower, or take a picture of the whole park from a wide angle lens!

These make better photos for Digital Scrapbooking Projects later on!
Remember, whenever you start with a better picture you can have more
options in digital scrapbooking!

Make Homemade Cinnamon Rolls for Back to School Breakfasts

Mmmmm…The fresh, warm smell of cinnamon rolls is filling my house tonight. I can’t wait for my husband to come home and have one. If there is one thing that man can’t resist it is a homemade cinnamon roll.

My daughter and her friends came home from a neighborhood activity today with a new recipe for rolls. They begged me to let them make them.

After not much thought at all I jumped aboard but suggested that we make cinnamon rolls out of the bread dough.

They thought that was a great idea and soon we got started.

The dough was quickly made and they were covered in flour but it was a much smaller mess than I thought it would be.

We added all the ingredients and mixed the dough. See the recipe below!

I gave each of the girls a section of the dough and I took one myself.

I showed them how to roll out the dough and put the butter and cinnamon on.

The fun part was cutting the cinnamon rolls.

I taught them a fun trick that I learned years ago. You use a piece of thread to cut the rolls.

Slip the thread under the roll of dough and wrap the thread around and then squeeze it through the dough to make a perfect cut.

The finished result was beautiful. All of the girls had their own style or shape and size of cinnamon rolls but they all were so yummy.

The girls were happy with the results of their efforts and enjoyed eating one or two of them!

At end of it all each my daughters friends took a pan of at least a dozen home with them. Everyone was delighted!

Make ahead Homemade Cinnamon Rolls for Back to School Breakfasts!

School is also starting up soon and so I thought I would share this idea with you. This dough can be made into rolls, bread or homemade pizza pockets that you could send to school with your kids in their lunches!

Just let your imagination help you make health, tasty lunches that the kids will be crazy about.

Also, there is nothing better than a fresh, homemade cinnamon roll for breakfast!

So let the kids get busy when they complain to you that they are bored these last few days before school starts. Have them make their 1^st day of school breakfasts.

This recipe freezes really well, so don’t be afraid to make a large batch and freeze a couple dozen for those mornings when you need to grab something really quick for breakfast!!

Also, I think I will scrap them and turn the pages into digital scrapbooking pages. I think I will have them made into leather bound album for Christmas presents this winter. I can send my scrapbooking pages to an online printer that can easily do that!

But, until then I think I will take the digital scrapbooking pages and turn them into a digital album (PDF format) and email to my sister, and few friends.

I am sure they will love to have this recipe too! And when I email them the recipe they can just print it out on their home computer, or I know my sister will put it on your Apple I pad to read there! She is keeping all her recipes digital these days!!! So she will love it in the digital version!

Denise Bell’s Dinner Rolls and Cinnamon Roll Recipe

Ingredients:
5 Cups Hot Water
8 Tsp. Yeast (I use instant and put it right in the flour)
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Oil
½ Tsp. Salt
4 eggs
14-16 Cups flour

Directions:
Mix all ingredients. Place in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, allow to raise until doubled, about 1 hour. Form into rolls and place on baking sheet; cover with plastic wrap. Allow to raise until doubled, 30 to 45 min. Bake at 375 for 18 to 20 min.

For cinnamon rolls: Roll dough out in a rectangle. Cover with softened butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Add nuts if desired. Roll up starting with small end of dough. Cut with dental floss or thread into 1 inch slices. Lay rolls onto a greased baking sheet. Cover and let raise a second time. Bake 375 for 18-20 minutes.

Icing Recipe

Instructions:
1 8 oz pkg Cream Cheese Mix together to make soft icing.
1 Cube Butter Spread onto rolls while they are
1 pkg Powdered Sugar still warm.
1 Tbls Vanilla

Directions:
Mix together to make soft icing. Spread onto rolls while they are still warm.

It is fun to scrap with with photos of our best friends. It is nice to scrap our digital pages and send a copy to the friends in the photos too! It is nice to all all those photos we take of our friends to a digital scrapbooking page, but it is also nice to add some journaling to our scrapbooking projects too!

Journaling can be as concise as a date and title and naming those in the photo, or it can be a quick blurb telling what is happening in the image, or it can be long paragraphs that share your thoughts and feelings. It really depends on what you want to do with it.

Many digital scrapbookers are combining journaling with digital scrapbooking. It makes sense that journaling and digital scrapbooking are a natural fit!

You have your lovely scrapped page and then you add your precious photos so now it makes sense to include something said about the whole thing too!

However, sometimes we want to write more but our photos, our memories, our feelings, and our experiences with friends but don’t know where to start. So, see if these journaling prompts about friendship that might be a helpful start!

Friendship Prompts for Journaling Scrapbooking Pages:

• What did you and your friend experience? Explain the experience and special memories captured in the photos
• Describe what it means to be friend or have a friend.
• What qualities do you admire in your friend(s)?
• Why do you love your friend? Have they helped you through a rough time? Shared a joy with you?
• What is the value of friendship?
• Write about your best friend as if she/he were a stranger.
• What characteristics makes your best friend your best friend?
• How do you feel when you have had a fight with your best friend?
• Write about a friend with a very different background from yours.
• Describe a friend you haven’t seen for a long time but would like to see.
• How do we learn about ourselves from our friends?

These prompts about friendship might be helpful in generating a few prompts of your own to use in journaling and scrapbooking projects.

Use these prompts with those special friend scrapbooking pages that will coordinate with photos and journaling too! A few Party Game Ideas for Young Children:

• Birthday on Parade Make your own birthday party parade by giving children musical instruments – drums, shakers, horns, etc., line them up in a straight line and have them follow you around the house or yard playing their birthday instruments.
• Dancing
  Put on some lively music then dance! Young Children love to dance. Play music and let them freestyle dance.
• Freeze Dance Game
  Have everyone dance and when you call out “Freeze!” everyone must freeze in that position. Then say “Unfreeze” and have them dance again.
• Draw the child’s outline
  Get some poster paper, and have each child lay down and then trace them with a marker. Let each child take color crayons and color themselves. For really young children have parents help and don’t worry about staying in the lines!
• Bubble Games
  Keep young children busy with bubbles! Children love bubbles and to have their own bottle of bubbles usually makes a big hit! Blow bubbles and see if they can pop the bubbles before they hit the floor. Then see who can catch bubbles with their hands. If you have older children at the birthday party see if they can blow the biggest or smallest bubble.
• Treasure Hunt Games
  Take large plastic eggs and put candy or party favors in them, and hide eggs around the living room, backyard or park. Make sure the candy or favors are age-appropriate – you don’t want anyone to chock. Have the children hunt for the eggs. Each child can keep the eggs they find.
• The Hokey Pokey Game
  Children love to play this simple game. Here are the directions in case you’ve forgotten how play this old game for children’s parties. Have children stand in a circle. The leader begins the song and have everyone join in. Leader puts their right arm in the circle and sings “You put your right arm in … you take your right arm out … you put your right arm in and you shake it all about .. you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around and that’s what it’s all about! While singing the song put your right arm in the circle, take your right arm out, put your right arm in and then shake it up and down, then have your index fingers point to the sky while turning yourself in a circle, clap the last line of the song … That’s what it’s all about! Next try putting your leg in and take it out .. keep going till everyone has all their wiggles out.
• Have a Piñata
  Even if the children are to young to break it open. It looks great in the photos and on the scrapbooking pages! It can be used as a decoration if the children are to young to actually play! Or just have the older children select a younger child swing for them, once the piñata is open have the older child gather some goodies for the younger child too!

With a few of these ideas you should have loads of fun and have the chance to get lots of great photos that you can scrap later on!
