I am not quite sure how I imagined that I would begin Digital Scrapbooking, but I didn’t realize right-off-the-bat that I would need any Software!

Luckily my mom was already an avid Digital Scrapbooker at the time and explained that in order to begin Digital Scrapbooking, that yes, I would in fact need to purchase Digital Scrapbooking/Photo Editing Software.

She went on to explain that this type of Software would allow me to combine both Digital Photos and Digital Supplies together (like Digital Papers, Frames, Embellishments, etc.) to make Digital Scrapbooking Pages! Photo Editing Software would also help me enhance my Digital Photos, edit my Digital Pages, and create beautiful Digital Scrapbooking Projects!

So now that I knew I needed to get some Software in order to start Digital Scrapbooking, I wasn’t quite sure which Software to choose or which Program was best! My mom explained to me that there are basically two, quality Digital Scrapbooking/Photo Editing Software Programs to choose from: either Adobe® Photoshop® OR Adobe® Photoshop® Elements. She went on to tell me that although there are other Digital Scrapbooking Software Programs on the market, but that she was not a fan of any of the other, less-reliable brands. If you’re curious to know why then read her blog article about her not-so-fun experience using other Digital Scrapbooking Software Programs.

So, that narrowed it down a bit. I could choose between Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements, but which one was better? She continued by telling me the difference between the two Adobe Programs and why I might want one over the other.

To all of you out there who feel utterly lost in the world of Digital Scrapbooking and graphic program options, let me try to help explain the two programs quickly:

Photoshop

Adobe® Photoshop® CS5 was designed with Graphic Designers in mind and to be used to create Professional Magazine Ads, etc. So it has lots of great tools for advanced digital editing and even advanced digital scrapbooking.

For example Photoshop CS5 has these features that Elements doesn’t have: like puppet warp, HDR Pro, 64-bit support (for performance), Pen Tool, History Brush, Curves, automatic lens correction, Truer Edge detection technology, 3D objects & text, advanced text formatting, CMYK color models, and so on.

As far as tools, brushes, filters, Photoshop CS5 added some new ones (e.g., Mixer Brush, Bristle Tips, Repoussé) and Photoshop Elements in general has a reduced set with limited options available, which are more pre-fixed and oriented for the goals of home photo retouching, rather than a full-blown “do it all” professional image editor and creator like Photoshop CS5.

Because it was designed for the professionals it’s not as user friendly for the beginner, however with our Digital Scrapbook training for Photoshop you should be up and running right away! Photoshop is a must if you get into advanced digital scrapbooking like making your own digital supplies. Photoshop’s main down point is that it is very expensive; around $600 – $700! And if you buy the Extended Version with more features the price is in the $1000.00 range! So many people, because of the price, choose to start off with Photoshop Elements.

Special Note: if you’re a student then the discount on Photoshop CS5 is huge, and the price difference between the two products is not as large. Students get only a $10 price break on Elements (after rebate), vs. getting 80% off for the full Photoshop.

Photoshop Elements

Adobe® Photoshop® Elements 9 was created for people getting started in Photoshop, Photo Editing and Digital Scrapbooking. Photoshop Elements honestly can do many of the same things that Photoshop can do at a fraction of the price! (Around $50 – $80)! This is a big secret that most people don’t know! Not to mention, Photoshop Elements is much, much less complicated and more user friendly! Also, Photoshop Elements has extra tools and digital supplies just for the digital scrapbooker, which regular Photoshop doesn’t have!

Photoshop Element has some digital scrapbooking supplies built right into the program – Photoshop doesn’t! Also the cookie cutter tool is fantastic to use in digital scrapbooking as it cuts out scrapbooking mats, photos, backgrounds into shapes! Traditional scrapbookers use a tool like this all the time, and Elements has it too, but not Photoshop.

Also, if you want to have a software program for editing video too then you can buy the Elements combo software for about $130 and have the BOTH Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements too! Premiere Elements edits video, works hand in hand with Photoshop Elements and is the little sister version of Premiere – Adobe’s top of the line video editing software! Getting both programs is still cheaper than buying just Photoshop alone!

With Photoshop Elements 9 the orientation towards the new Photo Editor or Digital Scrapbooker instead of the professional graphic artist, Elements is a natural pick for many digital Scrapbookers! It is easy to get started and learn Photoshop Elements and Digital Scrapbooking with our Getting Started Series in Digital Scrapbooking using Photoshop Elements Training! With a little training you will be creating wonderful digital scrapbooking pages and projects in no time! And if you ever want to upgrade to Photoshop, all your digital scrapbooking pages can be read by Photoshop, even if you created them in Elements! Also, if you learn Elements, much of your training can easily shift to Photoshop as many of the same principals apply to both programs!

Which Software Program should you pick?

So bottom line, it really depends on your needs and goals. Photoshop Elements remains a scaled down and hobbyist-oriented version of “the gold standard.” Your best bet is probably to download and run the free trials of both to see what works better for your requirements, as no single answer is right for everybody.

Oh… so which one would I pick? A few of us like like me, love having both Photoshop and Elements! Elements is very easy to use and I start out in it especially if I am digital scrapbooking or making a few photo edits. But later as I need more control or special features, especially when I am making digital scrapbooking supplies from scratch I then switch over to Photoshop! Photoshop has some great features that I love and can’t get in Elements. So really for me I use both programs every day! They use the same file format so whether I make it in Elements or Photoshop I can use it in either program or switch between the programs to create the prefect project. They often work the same so once I have learned one I usually can work in the other program to with the same project. Don’t tell anyone but I usually have both programs opened on my computer at the same time too! Ok, I realize this is probably over the top and that for most people picking one or the other would do just fine! But for me I love both programs for different reasons, and use each one every day!

Again, try both programs and see which is best for you.

Photoshop is just a little younger than my own kids — they (both my children and Photoshop) have grown up so quickly! Time flies!

So have you ever wondered how Photoshop got started? how it grew, and where it is now? If so then check out this information about Photoshop!

In the beginning………

Did you know that Photoshop was originally created by two brothers, Thomas and John Knoll back in 1987?

Thomas Knoll wrote software that could display grayscale images with a range of gray tones for monitors that could show only black or white pixels.

This project started as a thesis on the processing of digital images, and evolved first into a small set of graphical subroutines, and then into a program named Display.

Thomas, and his brother, John Knoll, went on to create a better featured program named ImagePro in 1988, and finally Photoshop 1.0 in 1989.

Thomas Knoll (above left) still works at Adobe. John Knoll (above right) is a visual effects supervisor at Industrial Light and Magic, where he worked on effects in several Star Wars movies, three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and Avatar.

Then there was Adobe…..

Adobe took interest in this final version, and the first ever version of Photoshop was released in 1990 for the Mac (Apple) Computers.

Photoshop 1.0 was designed to work on monochrome monitors that could display only black or white pixels.

The image to the right reflects the reality of digital imaging at the time.

Photoshop 1 including tools such as levels and curves for adjusting tonality and the clone tool for copying one part of an image to another.

In 1991, Photoshop 2.0 came out with paths and the pen tool, and ways for isolating images that helped in publishing.

In a marketing move that would be not be considered today, the art on the software box for Photoshop 2.0 did not change from version 1.

In 1993, Adobe released the first Photoshop for Windows Computers with version 2.5. So, from this release onward Adobe made Photoshop for both the Apple (Mac) and PC computers.

Photoshop 3.0 in 1994 marked the arrival of layers, which let the user separate elements of an image that could be stacked.

In November 1996 Photoshop 4.0 was released. It had Adjustment Layers, Actions, and Multiple Undo.

Then, in May 1998 Photoshop 5.0 was released. This version 5 had new tools, improved selection, editable type (previously, type was rasterized as soon as it was added), and History Palette with History Brush (Enhanced undo), Magnetic Lasso, and layer effects, color management and spot color support.

However at this point Photoshop had some competition in the photo editing arena like PhotoImpact, Fireworks, and Corel PhotoPaint. Some reviewers thought at the time that these later programs where better than Photoshop. But Photoshop always catered to the high-end photo editing/publishing needs, and in the end this was part reason it has become the leader in Photo Editing Software.

Photoshop version 5.5 added web imaging features by bundling Photoshop with ImageReady to compete with Macromedia’s Fireworks web imaging software (Fireworks is now part of Adobe’s software!)

Version 5/5.5 was first version of Photoshop I bought, I might have got an earlier version with one of my digital cameras though – ah, it seems only a few days ago, not years! In fact, if I climb up into my attic, and dig around a bit I bet I could find this Photoshop 5 software in a box, next to my daughters old dolls! Wow, I am a museum piece!

September 2000, saw Photoshop 6, with Vector Shapes, Updated User Interface, the “Liquify” filter, and Layer styles/Blending Options dialog.

In Photoshop 6.0, Adobe finally combined the bundled ImageReady program into Photoshop to offer more advances in web capabilities in just one program.

In March 2001, Photoshop 7.0 arrived. One important feature with Photoshop 7.0 was the ability to edit high-quality “raw” images taken directly from a camera’s image sensor.

Photoshop 7.0 also brought the healing brush, a feature that greatly eased the removal of age spots, wrinkles, and unsightly blemishes.

Photoshop 7.0 was the last version with its own number. After it came the Creative Suite series, CS, CS2, CS3, CS4, and the current CS5 version.

In October 2003, Photoshop CS (8.0), appeared with features like Camera RAW 2.x, Highly modified “Slice Tool”, Match Color command, Lens Blur filter, and more!

Photoshop CS2 (9.0) in April 2005, brought these features – the healing brush was updated to be the more automated spot healing brush, and photographers got a number of new abilities: corrections for lens distortion, and a quicker red-eye removal.

Also this version had more elaborate sharpening module, and image warp for tasks such as slimming models and many more features!

In April 2007, Photoshop CS3 (10) was introduced. It had a revised user interface, Quick Select tool, Alterations to Curves, Vanishing Point, Channel Mixer, Brightness and Contrast, and the Print dialog, and much more!

Learn how you can use digital scrapbooking training- even for important non-digital scrapbooking tasks!

Who knew that my digital scrapbooking training would come in handy for urgent projects that had NOTHING to do with digital scrapbooking?!! Yep, I was so pleased to discover that it could the other day!

Let me tell you how:

A few months ago, my husband and I put an offer on a house that we were interested in buying. Our real estate agent emailed the contract and we needed to sign it. I printed it out, we signed it, and I had to email the contract back to him. Well, as great as my printer can be, it doesn’t do well the scanner function when you feed multiple papers through the paper tray. I tried feeding my printer/scanner the house contract and it scanned page 1, 5,6,7, and 14. Yeah… it didn’t work.

It was annoying because I had to scan the pages one by one and email the contract over to my real estate agent as 14 different attachments. It was embarrassing that my printer couldn’t make it one neat PDF file.

That house never worked out, but not long ago, my husband and I found a new house that is even better! When our real estate agent emailed the new contract to us, I was so excited because I had recently completed the Digital Scrapbooks and More’s PDF Training and knew how to convert my scanned contract pages into one neat & tidy PDF file! Now my real estate agent would have to download, open, and print all 14 pages individually!

It was invaluable digital scrapbooking training that helped me out in a situation that had absolutely NOTHING to do with Digital Scrapbooking- it was great!

If you don’t know how to convert you digi projects or other important files into PDFs, this training is a must-have!! Read on for more information about this incredibly helpful training:

Add fun photo effects to your favorite Easter digital pics!

Whether you and your family will be attending church, hunting for hidden eggs, keeping your eyes open for signs of the Easter Bunny, or just devoring some yummy chocolate, take digital photos of the holiday’s activities and scrap them!

Another fun way to “jazz” up your favorite Easter pics is to add photo effects to them. This can create an artistic-feel that will look fabulous on your Facebook Page, Family Website, digital scrapbooking pages & albums, or even just as photos mailed or emailed to your family and friends! Give these five cool Photoshop Elements photo effects a try this Easter!

1. Black & White. Snap some pics of your little one dressed in their Easter attire and convert them into Black and White within Photoshop Elements. Tip: Black and white photos exaggerate the feeling or mood of the photo, so try to use one with few distractions and “noise.” For super-sweet Easter Black and White photos, avoid using pics with a lot of background and scenery, and instead choose simple photos or close-up portrait shots.

Want to learn how to convert your regular, colored photos to black and white? Then get Digital Scrapbooks and More’s Black & White Digi MakeOver Madness Photo Editing Tutorial!

2. Black & White… with a Touch of Color. One step up from converting your photos to black and white, you crank up the intensity when you bring back a little color to something special in a photo.

For Easter pics, add the color back to something special: an Easter basket, Easter eggs, colorful chocolate candies in your child’s hand, etc.

Want to learn how to convert your regular, colored photos to black and white with just a bit of color? Then get Digital Scrapbooks and More’s Black & White with a Touch of Color Photo Editing Tutorial! Please note: This tutorial features Halloween photos, but there’s no reason why you can’t use this photo editing lesson for Easter pics… or any photos- holiday or not- for that matter!

3. Text. Adding sweet-greetings to a favorite photo can add a little personality to a sweet shot. Turn a special photo of your family into a greeting card, or convert it to a PDF page or album and email it to Grandma and Grandpa! It’s incredibly easy to add artistic effects, it only takes seconds, and, trust me, you’re friends will wonder how the heck you managed to create such a cool holiday photo!
As we approach the end of 2009, it’s time to take a minute to tell your story and say what this year has been for you. Digital Scrapbooking is a great way to journal your “2009 Journal Entry.” Try these ideas for your end-of-the-year digital scrapbooking reflections!

When I was in first grade, I discovered a journal in our attic that my mom had started when I was an infant. She wrote every so often about what I was doing, what my personality was like, and how I was growing. It was such a special little discovery; it was so neat to read my mother’s perspective on me as a baby. Being incredibly busy, she found it hard to maintain and stopped writing in it when I was about two years old. But I decided that I would take over and begin journaling where she left off.

About two years later, in third grade, I rediscovered the journal in my room and read the last entry- the one I wrote. I found it so difficult to read (it was filled with 1st grade spelling mistakes) that I translated that entry and then wrote a new one on the next page!

Every few years I would stumble upon this special journal and write a new update of my ever-changing life. And while I actually used to be an avid, almost every day “journaler” in my teens, I always seemed to lose this one particular journal and find it somewhere completely unexpected years later. I think that was what was so special about it. With just a turn of the page, I could see how much my handwriting improved, how my vocabulary advanced, and how my thoughts, feelings, and life evolved.

Some entries were long, others were really short, but in the end- it was just exciting that a new entry was there. Some years were good years, other years were hard, but again, it was great to see that as bad as things can get, a page later, life had a way of working itself out and I was happier than ever.

As much as I don’t tend to live in the moment, I do feel sometimes that I live day by day and forget the big picture of what a year can bring. I think may of us do this. But a journal like this can remind you of the big picture: that no matter what the ups and downs of life in a year may be, we all grow and change and can become better as people.

I think everyone should keep a similar journal, where there’s no obligation to write every day, but perhaps check in once a year to write a new entry (I think anyone can commit to that!). A simple update on how you’ve grown and changed, new experiences or challenges you’ve faced, and an overview of a good, bad, or average year. Nothing has to be “deep,” poetic, or perfect- just a simple reflection of what has happened and who you are every year.

As we approach the end of 2009, it’s time to take a minute to tell your story and say what this year has been for you. Digital Scrapbooking is a great way to journal your “2009 Journal Entry.” Try these ideas for your end-of-the-year digital scrapbooking reflections:

· Create a two page digital scrapbooking journal entry. Make one page all text: write about what this year has taught you, goals you’ve accomplished, and just an overview of your year. You may even want to include new goals, hopes, and dreams for the year ahead. On the second page, scrap a digital scrapbooking page with photos of favorite or meaningful moments throughout the year: a special birthday, a meaningful reunion, or a happy, simple day of doing absolutely nothing with friends and family. Add captions with dates, times, places, and people in the photos, or even include mini-stories explaining certain photos.

Like this scrap page? Get the Digital Scrapbooks and More’s Happy New Year Kit and make your own end-of-the-year digi-masterpieces!

· Make a one-page digital scrapbooking page with photos (real photos of you & events throughout the year, or perhaps photos/paintings/pictures of things that represent the year and what it means to you). Add meaningful quotes by a favorite poet or person, inspirational sayings, or other captions that represent the completed year and what it has been like for you.

· A quick way to remember the previous year in the year after is to digitally scrap the new year’s calendar with photos from the previous year. Fill the digital calendar with special pics, phrases, and memories from each month of last year to remind you of the wonderful moments made the year before. Do this every year with your yearly calendar and reflect on happy times each month from a previous year well-done!

You can make digital calendars fast too, just by using Quick Pages. Quick Pages are basically pre-designed digital scrapbooking pages. All you have to do is add your photos (and perhaps a little text, if you want) and you’re done! Use Digital Scrapbooks and More’s 12 Month Calendar Quick Pages to make your own super-fast 2010 calendar! Just add your best 2009 photos each month, and within minutes, you’re done and ready to print!

It really doesn’t take long to create an end-of-the-year digital scrapbooking reflection entry or calendar. An hour or two (though with Quick Pages it can take a few mere minutes!), and you have a priceless masterpiece that sums up an entire year of your life.

A journal like this is a treasure- for yourself or maybe even for a special little first grader somewhere down the line…

Happy 2009 and Best Wishes for 2010!

Your wedding is one of the best days of your life, and definitely a day for a professional photographer. From walking down the aisle, to that very first married kiss, and all the wedding festivities after the ceremony, a good, professional photographer is a must. But after spending ridiculous amounts of money on the perfect person to capture all of those once-in-a-lifetime moments (plus the cost of venue and decorations, the dress and accessories, the flowers, the food, etc), most brides are more than happy when anyone is willing to give their wallet a break!

I felt that way after spending thousands of dollars on my photographer. She was brilliant, and it was definitely worth the expense (she took beautiful photos!), but we paid for photography service and that’s it. All the adorable “perks” she offered after her photography package, yeah… we just couldn’t afford any of it. One of those additional perks was a wedding scrapbook that she would create for you. Although her wedding scrapbook-example was beautiful, I was stunned by how much she was charging for it. Being a digital scrapbooker, I knew just how easily and inexpensively it was to make one just like it!

It made me realize that although it’s great to have a professional photographer, and not a day to miss out on that important wedding service, there is no reason why you can’t make your own wedding scrapbook afterwards- of equal quality for that matter. The cost of her wedding scrapbook was more than a thousand dollars. The cost of your own wedding scrapbook at the same quality? Anywhere from $50- $200. Really, that’s it. Again, anytime you can save yourself a little money and still get the same benefit around your wedding day, is definitely a time that it’s worth it.

3 Reasons you should make your own Wedding Digital Scrapbook:

1. Cost. The cost for your photographer to put together a wedding scrapbook can be absolutely insane. Like I said, my photographer was brilliant, but I could not afford a thousand-dollar scrapbook, I’m sorry. Between digital scrapbooking supplies, the book, and the printing, you can make a beautiful leather or linen-bound book for $200-max. Not bad.

2. Look. When you make your scrapbook, you get to decide what photo is on the cover page, and what photos go inside. Your favorite photos may not be your photographer’s favorite photos, and it’s important that you decide which photos bring back special memories and hold sentimental value. By taking charge of the project, you can feel proud of the look and design of each page and every photo that is included.

3. Effects. Your photographer may apply certain effects to photos, but might not use them in other photos. But what if you want to convert a favorite photo to black and white, or perhaps even add a touch of color back into the black and white photo- and it’s not already done? Well, you can easily apply these effects to your wedding photos yourself, at less than a fraction of the cost for your photographer to do it!

So why do brides-to-be waste thousands of dollars for someone else to make them a wedding scrapbook?

I think that those that can afford a high-priced book pick that option either A.) Because they feel overwhelmed and tight on time- and want someone else to do it. Or B.) They don’t know how to make their own wedding scrapbook and are afraid that any attempt that they make at creating their own would be disastrous. I think both of these issues are incredibly easy to solve.

First things first, as crazy, hectic, and stressful as wedding planning can be, most brides want nothing more than to have a break from planning. It seems so convenient to have someone do all the work, especially when you’re just so busy getting ready for your big day! But remember, after the wedding, what typically comes next is the relaxing honeymoon, and then it’s just every day, regular married-life! After your wedding, it’s so much fun to reminisce over the photos, watch the wedding video, and talk about all the special moments! It’s the perfect time to start making your own scrapbook, because you’ve had time to rest, but are still so excited about your wonderfully special day! So, even though it may seem overwhelming to make a wedding scrapbook before the wedding, just remember, you’ll be making it at a time when life has slowed down and reminiscing about the wedding is fun!

Second, it’s easy to make your own wedding scrapbook. Sign up for the FREE Digital Scrapbooks and More Newsletter and learn how to begin digital scrapbooking. This free newsletter will teach you what you need to get started, which digital scrapbooking software you should buy, and much more! It’s the very best way to start as a beginner to digital scrapbooking.

Next, get Digital Scrapbooks and More’s Digital Scrapbooking Training: The Getting Started Series. It’s available in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. This will teach you how to create beautiful scrapbooking pages and even print your finished album through an online printing company.

Once you know how to digitally scrapbook, get Digital Scrapbooks and More’s Photo Editing Training. Photo Editing will teach you how to apply beautiful effects to your photos (or even give them a virtual makeover!).

And just because you go digital doesn’t mean you can’t add real physical items to your wedding day scrapbook. Lace real invitations, dried flowers, table name cards, etc throughout your special book. Combine the best of both worlds: digital and traditional!

With digital scrapbooking and photo editing, your wedding day scrapbook can be just as stunning as any photographer’s version, at a ridiculously inexpensive price. And after a day like a wedding day… every penny that you can save counts!

You’d be amazed by how incredibly easy digital scrapbooking is, with a little bit of good, quality training! Here at Digital Scrapbooks and More, training is our specialty! So, why become a digital scrapbooker? This is why we know that you’ll love it: 1. If you have a digital camera, you’ll love digital scrapbooking. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t be a digital scrapbooking pro if you already have a digital camera! If you like to snap pics of yourself, family, friends, pets, or special things and places, then you need to learn digital scrapbooking so that you can easily make your favorite photos look even better or add them to beautiful digital projects- easily and quickly!2. It’s Easy & Fun. Don’t let the word “digital” intimidate you. You don’t have to be any kind of “tech-person” or “computer-whiz” to learn digital scrapbooking! All you need is the easy training from Digital Scrapbooks and More, and you’ll be digitally scrapping in minutes! 3. Saves Time. If you have a busy schedule, digital scrapbooking is perfect for you because you can make gorgeous photo books, scrapbooks, and other beautiful keepsakes quickly! There’s no need to invest hours in sewing, painting, gluing, or cutting… going digital makes creating pretty projects a real timesaver!4. Saves Money. With digital supplies, you can reuse them over and over again, so there’s no need to buy brand-new supplies each time you start a new digital project. It really saves money to only have to buy supplies once, and many digital supplies are lot more cost-efficient than physical supplies anyway!

5. No Mess. No need to dedicate an entire room to papers, photos, stickers, embellishments, scissors, glues, stamps, and other space-wasting (and expensive) scrapbooking supplies. Because supplies are digital, everything is neat, tidy, and on your computer! And that means no time-consuming clean-up either!

6. Make Photos Look Fabulous. Take your favorite digital photos and make them look even better by fixing digital flaws (like red-eye or unflattering shadows) with photo editing. Once you know how to digitally scrapbook and you know how to use the software, you can use this same software to play with your digital photos too!

7. Have More. After creating a traditional scrapbook, it’s rewarding, but you only have one copy. With digital scrapbooking, you can make as many copies of the same scrapbook as you like! This is great if you want to keep one and give another away as a gift! Having multiple copies is also a great option just in case (for some reason or another) you lose it, or the scrapbook gets ruined somehow. With traditional scrapbooking, there is absolutely no way you can ever duplicate all your hard work, but with digital scrapbooking, the copies are endless!

8. Become Creative. Whether or not you consider yourself to be a so-called “creative person,” digital scrapbooking can help you become instantly creative! Because you can apply photo and project effects to your photos and supplies, you can make insanely beautiful books or crafts without taking a single class in photography, sewing, drawing, sketching, or painting!

9. Make More than Scrapbooks. Digital Scrapbooks and More will show you that there really IS a whole lot more that you can make when you learn digital scrapbooking! Besides amazing scrapbooks and full-featured photo books, make personalized photo or greeting cards, customized announcements, invitations, or thank you cards, adorable photo stamps, one-of-a-kind gifts, crafts, or other keepsakes! You’ll really be surprised at what you can do, create, and make with your digital scrapbooking knowledge!

10. Learn Skills. By learning digital scrapbooking, you will not only learn a new, fun, and exciting hobby, you’ll also learn how to edit your photos, and learn other skills that may not even have anything to do with digital scrapbooking! Understanding how to use photo editing software (the same software that you will use for digital scrapbooking) may even benefit you in your career or other areas of your personal life!

Halloween photo-taking tips to use at your kid's next Halloween party!

My mom used to let me have the best Halloween parties when I was a kid! She would park the cars in the street and let us use the whole garage to decorate and transform into a one-night “room of terror.” It was actually an adorable kids’ holiday party, with yummy snacks and treats, Halloween games to play, and music to listen to (usually Michael Jackson’s Thriller over and over and over again!). My mom even got us a strobe light and we would dance or rollerblade. The big open space in the garage was perfect for that! A few of my best friends would come over to the party and we would play, eat, laugh, and tell spooky stories in the room of terror until it was time to go trick-or-treating! Those parties were the best!

Kids are so excited to host their own Halloween party, and just like my mom, you can always set them up in the garage if it’s not too cold (I have to admit, I was spoiled, as we lived in sunny San Diego!), family room, or a rec room. A few, simple (and inexpensive) Halloween decorations, along with some yummy, Halloween-inspired snacks, and you really can create a fantastic “room of terror” for your own kids this Halloween!

The awful news about my own Halloween parties is that we didn’t take any pictures! All the photo ops of decorating the garage together or playing in the garage? Yup, we don’t have any pics and it’s such a shame! The good news? You can learn from our mistake and make sure to take plenty of Halloween party pics at your own ghoulish party!

There are a few must-take photos opportunities that you must take advantage of at your kid’s next Halloween bash:

First, take photos of the final set up. After adding a spooky Halloween decoration here and there, a table or two with black or pumpkin-orange-colored table covers, and made a few oh-so-frightening Halloween snacks, you must take photos of your super-scary garage transformation! Even better? Take “before” pictures of the room, and then take “after” pictures of the room of terror! You’ll want to remember your adorable Halloween set-up, and these kinds of pictures are great for digital scrapbooking pages! Make sure you ask your kids to pose in the pictures too!

You’ll also want to take pictures of the kids playing in the room of terror! As each of your child’s friends come over, ask them if you can take two posed pictures next to your child. Make sure you take pics of your child and their friend next to some adorable decorations in the room of terror, and ask for a simple smile. The next photo, ask the kids to be wild and crazy- do something fun for the cameras (like a silly face), or make a fun stance that matches their Halloween costume. Doing this will create fun memories, great pics, and will ensure that your child has plenty of photos (that you and/or your child can digitally scrap with!) of each friend!

Make sure you also take some posed group shots of your child and their friends. Same thing- ask for a few smiles and a few silly faces. As you leave them to enjoy their Halloween party, you may want to leave a few disposable cameras (if your children don’t have their own digital cameras). Leave a few on the tables, and encourage them to take their own pictures. Getting silly, adorable pictures from their point of view will be a fun addition for Halloween digital scrapbooking projects. It also ensures that you have some posed pics (that you took) and some fun, kid’s pics (that they take) from two, wonderfully different perspectives!

Last but not least, after the party is over, and you are ready to scrap all the Halloween photos, add some “spooky” Halloween effects to favorite photos using Digital Scrapbooks and More’s Halloween Photo Editing Tutorials! Convert a favorite photo to black and white and then add a touch of color, for an exciting Halloween photo-effect!

If there were some scary kids’ costumes, add even more dramatic effects by emphasizing “scary” eyes in the pics! Play with Digital Scrapbooks and More’s special seasonal tutorials for adorable Halloween photos for digital scrapbooking projects or “thank you” cards for all the kids that attended the party!

Happy Halloween & Happy Scrapping!
