Make and send your child to school with a fun Groundhog Day joke!

Sometimes we want our children to know we are thinking of them and a love note isn’t the only way. How about a fun joke or a riddle instead of note?

However, don’t just jot something down, scrap it and make it extra fun and special! What a nice surprise for Groundhog Day!

Here’s how to do it! Plus, this article will also tell you about some Groundhog jokes to get you started below!

Step 1: Open up your Scrapbooking Program like Photoshop or Elements and Use a template and Scrap Several Jokes at once!

Add your scrapbooking papers to to make a background on your joke cards. My example below is scrapping my joke card in Photoshop Elements, and using this scrap kit ~ Groundhog Digital Scrapbooking Kit 2 Make several Joke cards at once!

Also, I am using the Place Card Template from this Training to make my joke cards. The easiest way to do this is by using a special template like the place card template that is the perfect size for making joke or riddle cards for lunch box surprises.

How to Make Place Cards (and More) using Photoshop Elements is a fabulous way to learn how to make your own place cards for dinner parties, gift cards for presents, notes to put into lunch boxes, and so much more! There are many ways to use the included place card template which can be used for jokes, riddles and brain teaser cards too!

Step 3: In Photoshop or Elements Scrap by adding Embellishments to your your Scrap Joke Cards

Start adding embellishments to joke cards, by making more than one at a time you can give out several leading up to the holiday or one for each of your children!

Step 3: Type the Joke (riddle, poem or brain teaser) into Photoshop or Photoshop Elements using the Text Tool to make it special.

Write the joke question on the front (see image above) of the scrapped card. With the answer in the inside!

For the answer either handwrite the answer inside or scrap answers on another template and turn your page over and print answer other side of the paper so it will be on the inside of the card

Bonus Idea: Make Personalized Joke Cards!
The great thing about scrapping your own customized joke cards is that you can customize the look, the saying, and even add a photo of your child and their name to the joke card!

Step 4: Print your joke cards, cut them, fold them. After you have created the perfect joke cards then print them out!

After they are printed, then cut each one out! Then fold them!

You can see that the Question is on the front of the card and the answer is in the inside of the card.

You can either print the page double sided or print two pages and cut and paste the answer inside – either way makes this fun and doesn’t give away the answer before your child has a chance to guess it!

Now you have a couple of jokes for a few days! Or you can put one into each of your children’s lunch boxes or put out along side a afternoon snack to celebrate Groundhog Day!

It will be such a nice surprise when they open their lunch box and find a fun joke or riddle!

Scanning multiple seed Packets in Photoshop Elements For Garden Digital Scrapbooking Projects!

If you are a gardener like me, then you might like to turn some of your seed packets into digital scrapbook embellishments!

You can scan one seed packet at a time (like we mentioned in yesterdays blog),  or you scan a couple of images at a one time in Photoshop Elements!

However, unless you can separate your multiple images, after they are scanned together they will become one image in Photoshop Elements!

Learn how to Scan Multiple images and Separate them in Photoshop Elements:

If you don’t know how to scan multiple images and separate them – it is very easy.

Let me give you that information – so you, like me can save some time and start working on those seed packets that you want to turn into digital scrapbooking embellishments!

First, add several of seed packets on a scanner bed, leave some space between the packets.

Next open up your Photoshop Elements software program.

Once you have opened Photoshop Elements In Editor Mode, you will need to scan the photos or images to your scanner

Go to FILE > IMPORT > “YOUR PRINTER”

If you have multiple printers/scanners, you will need to look through the list of printer/scanner options, and choose the scanner that you would like use to scan the images, photos or in this case seed packets.

Next, A pop-up menu will appear. Select Preview (see arrow in red) to view the scanned images (seed packets) and to make the adjustments

Move the boxes that surround the photo until it fits the way that you would like it around your picture

Then select Scan (see other arrow in red) to begin scanning.

The scanned images will appear in the work area, but the images are as one combined photo.

Don’t stop now – you are so close!

Next, go to the top menu and select Image > Divide Scanned Photos

Photoshop Elements will separate each of the individual images (seed packets), and put them in their own separate window.  All you have to do is save each one and then you have all the images scanned and separated!

This is a very easy way to scan multiple images and to separate them quickly!

Plus Photoshop Elements is very good at getting the photos aligned straight, even if they are not put in the scanner that way!

This is a great tip for saving some time!

Now save them individually,  and scrap your seed packets into a nice digital scrapbooking page!

Hope you try this at home with Photoshop Elements and you will quickly see how fun it is to add your own seed packets to your digital scrapbooking projects!

Ps. when you get all of your Veggie or Flower garden scrapped you might want to turn it into a digital garden album, to send to friends and family! Make a Scanned Seed Packet into a Digital Scrapbooking Embellishment using Photoshop!

Now that it is is summer and if you like me are, planting flowers and vegetable gardens, then you might like to have some embellishments that match your garden.

It is easy and fun to make your own digital scrapbooking embellishments from scanned seed packets in Photoshop!

Follow along these simple steps in Photoshop so you can make your own digital scrapbooking Embellishment for your flower or Vegetable garden digital scrapbooking projects!

Here are the steps to do it:

First turn on your scanner, and add seed packet on your scanner bed.

If possible try to make it straight and in a good place on your scanner glass.

Close the lid and get ready to scan it using Photoshop and not the scanning software that came with your scanner!

Next open up your Photoshop software program.

Once you have opened Photoshop, you will need to scan the seed packet into your scanner

Go to FILE > IMPORT > WIA Support

Then, a Pop up window will appear. Select the file you want the photo to go to. If you need to browse to a new one select the Browse Button and go to the folder you want. Select the options and push the Start Button.

Next, another pop-up window will appear

Select the scanner you wish to use.

If you have multiple printers/scanners, you will need to look through the list of printer/scanner options, and choose the scanner that you would like use to scan the photos. After you have selected the scanner – click the OK button.

Then, A pop-up menu will appear. Select Preview (see arrow in red) to view the scanned photo and to make the adjustments

Move the boxes that surround the photo until it fits the way that you would like it around your picture

Then select Scan Button (see single arrow ) to begin scanning.

The scanned photos will appear in the work area the photos as one combined photo.

If you have extra area around your seed packet you might want to take the Crop tool and cut it away!

Then when it is trimmed up – save it.

Then use your new digital scrapbooking embellishment on your next Digital Scrapbooking project!

You can use your new digital scrapbooking embellishment with lots of different supplies to make many different kinds of scrapbooking pages using the same seed packet you just scanned!

Have fun trying this scanning technique to create a digital scrapbooking embellishment in Photoshop!

How to Add a New Layer Below in Photoshop Elements

After you have been Digital Scrapbooking or Photo Editing for awhile then you are always excited to learn those little tips that save time or make the tasks in Photoshop Elements easier.

As a Digital Scrapbookers or as Photo Editors when we use Photoshop Elements all the time we often add a new layer to our projects.

For example, in  this digital scrapbooking page below:

I have already added several items to make a digital scrap page. Now, I am going to add a new layer to put a digital ribbon on. So I click on the new Layer Button – see below:

If I just used Elements in the default way then the new layer would go on top of the active layer, and then when I made the ribbon on that new layer it would be on top of everything.

This is OK, but since the default of making a new layer goes on top, which means I will have to drag this new layer below to make it work right in my digital scrapbooking layout. (Because if I don’t drag it below then my ribbon covers up the flower embellishment).

However, if I would have used this handy little tip then I could have take out this last step because I could have added the New Layer below my active layer instead of the default above!

Here is how you do it!

Step 1: Click the layer you want to make active and that you want the New Layer to go below (See #1)

Step 2: Click the Create a new layer icon, but this time hold down the Control key (Mac Users: Command Key) as you click on the icon and it will add the new layer below the active layer. (See #2 above)

Now you can make your  ribbon for your scrap page and it will be below the flower embellishment! No dragging below!!!

See how nicely this Quick Tip worked in digital scrapbooking to make it go faster! This same tip would work in photo editing task too!

Special Note: However, there is one time this quick tip doesn’t work. That is when you are in the background layer. If you use the shortcut key it will not put a layer below in this case.

However, you can override this default feature if you unlock this background layer then, the shortcut keys work to put a New Layer below the background layer!!!

Now the New Layer is below the background paper in this example!

Try this quick tip next time you are scrapbooking or photo editing and you might just fall in love with this tip and use it all the time!

Using the zoom feature in Elements is the only way to see the image in enough detail to work effectively.

However, while zooming in is needed to see the area you are editing, you might also need to see how the correction fits into the overall image. To do that you might find yourself zooming in to the image, making part of the corrections and then zooming out to see how that looks. This can be a difficult task, but if you know one of the secrets inside of Elements then you can  actually have two separate windows, both showing the same image. Not just a copy of the image, but the actual image.

Here is how to do it….

To open dual windows of the same image, do this: select View > New Window for DOCUMENT from the menu, the DOCUMENT or IMAGE is the name of the file you’re working on. For example our image is named “Girl_Hair.jpg” so the New Window will include that name on the menu too! See the image below.

This will open another window of your image up in the work space. Notice that the new view of your image will be named the same and will be highlighted (See #1) and the other one the name will be faded (See #2)

Now that you have both windows are open at the same time, try zooming in on one image. You’ll notice that the other stays at the same magnification while you are zooming in on the other.

When you make edits in one image, then they will appear in both windows. Now you will have a close up view and a whole image view.

In the image above we took some of the extra fly away hairs off this girls neck with the spot healing tool. It was really helpful to have both the close up view to work with and also see how the whole image would be affected as well while making the edits.

Now save your image and close them.

This tip is so helpful to use in when editing photos and even when you are scrapping too.

Once you try this tip you will probably fall in love with it and use it most the time you are doing close up work with photo editing or scrapping!

Making Digital Photos Look Vintage: Adding a White Border Trim

Remember when photos were developed and printed with a white bordered trim around the edges? Whether or not you do, we now have the luxury of going back in time and recreating those cool, old fashion-looking photographs! Learn this digital trick and give those modern Digital Photos a fun, Vintage-makeover!

Remember, Digital Scrapbooking Fans, we strongly recommend that you complete the Digital Scrapbooks and More Getting Started Series for Photoshop or Photoshop Element first, which will make you comfortable working with the software, as well as some of the techniques or tools we may review but don’t explain in detail.

Follow these simple instructions for making your Photos have a White Trim!

Step 1: Open up your graphic program like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

Then, In Photoshop OR Photoshop Elements, add a Digital Photo to a Digital Paper by using the “drag and drop” method.

Follow these Steps!

Step 2: Arrange the Digital Photo on your digital scrapbooking paper.

Size it to be about the size you want.

Step 3: Click on the Color Picker Chip at the Bottom of the Tool Bar

Select White as the Foreground Color

Step 4: Click once on the digital photo.

Photoshop Elements Users: Go to: Edit > Stroke (Outline) Selection
Photoshop Users: Go to: Edit > Stroke

Step 5: A pop up will appear In the Width Category, type: 55 px (#1) Click on the circle next to the Inside Option (#2) And click on the OK button (#3)

Step 6: You have now added a Vintage-looking White Trim Border Around your photo! Make the final adjustments to position and size.

BONUS TIP:
Duplicate your Photo to make it look like you have several photos rested on your Digital Scrapbooking Page too!

The final touch: Add a Drop Shadow to each Photo for a more realistic-effect.

Try this simple but fun way to make your photos have a white border around them!

Here are the step for scanning your photos into Elements or Photoshop:

Step 1: You need a Scanner and Photoshop Elements (or Photoshop)

To scan photos into Photoshop Elements (or Photoshop)  – you will need a scanner and either Elements or Photoshop

Step 2: Place the photo you want to scan on your scanners scanning glass.

Turn on the scanner, open it, and put a photo facing down on the scanner bed.

Close the scanner door Next, open Photoshop Elements in the Editor Mode or start Photoshop.

Step 3: Preparing to scan a Photo or Image in Elements or Photoshop

Once you have opened Photoshop Elements in the Editor Mode, you will need to scan the photos or images to your scanner, to do this follow the directions below.

Go to FILE > IMPORT > “YOUR PRINTER” If you have multiple printers/scanners, you will need to look through the list of printer/scanner options, and choose the scanner that you would like use to scan the photo

In Photoshop: after you have started Photoshop,  you will need to scan the photos or images to your scanner, to do this follow the directions below.

Go to FILE > IMPORT > WIA Support

A pop-up menu will appear in Photoshop, select the options and push the Start button.

Next another pop-up menu will appear, pick the scanner you want to use and click OK button

Note: If you have multiple printers/scanners, you will need to look through the list of printer/scanner options, and choose the scanner that you would like use to scan the photo

Step 4: Preview and Scan

In Photoshop Elements, A pop-up menu will appear. Select Preview (see arrow #1 in red) to view the scanned photo and to make the adjustments. Move the boxes that surround the photo until it fits the way that you would like it around your picture (see arrow #2 in red). Then select Scan (see arrow #3 in red) to begin scanning.

In Photoshop, A pop-up menu will appear. Select Preview (see arrow #1 in red) to view the scanned photo and to make the adjustments. Step 5: Wait as it Scans

Be patient as it will take a few minutes for your scanner to scan the image and send it to Photoshop Elements

In Photoshop

Step 6: You have scanned your photo!

The scanned photo will appear in Photoshop Elements!

Or the scanned photo will appear in Photoshop!

It is a good idea to name the scanned photo and save it in a folder that you will remember for later

Hot Tip: Save an extra copy of this photo in order to edit or to add to a scrapbook project later. By making an extra copy of a scanned photo, it helps prevent accidentally changing or manipulating your original copy.

Once you have the photo scanned you can save it to use later, but this same trick works if you need to scan a document, and even a leaf to make into an embellishment!

Once you know how to scan into Photoshop or Photoshop Elements you can do lots of fun things!

How to Fill in a Font with Color in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements

Sometimes when we are digitally scrapbooking we find a fun font to use that has some space in it.

This works mainly when a font has some extra space inside the letters or in any parts of the designs around the letters that include empty space.

That space can quickly be colored to enhance our design if you follow these easy steps.

Eight Easy Steps to Color the Extra Space in some Fonts:

Step 1: Open up your digital scrapbooking project in Photoshop Elements or Photoshop.

Note: I will be illustrating these steps in Elements but you can easily do these same steps in Photoshop too!

Step 2: Next select the Text Tool in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Pick a font that has some space in it – for this example my computer had a font called BalloonEFDropShadow (#1). You can see that it has space (#2) within the font that would be nice to color.

Take a look at this font sample – see the space in the lettering? This will be nice for my scrap project.

You may or may not have this font on your computer, so look for any font that has some space in it if you want to follow along.

Step 3: Set the size and other options for this font, like size, color and other options.

Step 4: Once the option are set then draw out your type box and type in your text.

Step 5: Next go to the layer panel and right-click on the text layer in Photoshop Elements then select Simplify Layer

Note: in Photoshop you need  to do something slightly different. First, go to  the layer panel and right-click on the text layer, and then select Rasterize Type

Special Note for both Photoshop or Elements Users: Make sure you are done editing the text before doing this step, as it will be not be editable as text after this step!

Step 6: Pick a Color to fill font. Go to the color picker and select a color you would like to fill your font with.

Step 7: Select the Paint Bucket tool and pour the color into all the spaces in the font you want filled.

Continue till you have all the spaces in the font filled

Step 8: Add layer styles if you want to text for more dramatic effects. Here I added a drop shadow.

An alternative to filling all the space in the font is to select only a few areas in the font to fill like the example below in Photoshop.

However when you decide to fill in your font spaces it could make your design more interesting than just leaving them blank!

You can see that this can add quite a bit of design to your digital scrapbooking project to add color to the space in a font

Step 8: Add layer styles to your filled text for more dramatic effects. In the image below I added a drop shadow to make the text pop on the page!

Now we are done and can enjoy our digital scrapbooking page!
