How do You Picture Thanksgiving? Getting Holiday Digital scrapbooking photos!
(Originally posted 11/16/2009)

What does your Thanksgiving look like? What kind of photos do you take at Thanksgiving time?

Does your perfect digital photo for your scrapbooking pages look like a Norman Rockwell painting?

Most likely you have seen (at least a photo of) Norman Rockwell’s “Freedom from Want” painting that first appeared in the 1940’s on The Saturday Evening Post. This painting has burned an image in our minds that our Thanksgiving (Holiday) photos should be taken around the table with the turkey being served.

Many scrappers only take pictures for their scrapbooking project of the Thanksgiving dinner itself, and only capture a small portion of the holiday fun.

While I do admit photos around the table can be a fantastic scrapbooking photo opportunity – it certainly isn’t the only great photography opportunity that Thanksgiving offers!

When looking for photos for digital scrapbooking look for lots of places and times great shots happen. Like before you actually serve the dinner, certainly food preparations add lots of photo opportunities. People roasting, baking, and cooking together. Family and friends laughing together and chatting while cooking. The cooks in their aprons – matching, not matching! New and old recipes made and tried.

For example I made this digital scrapbooking page from photos I took of my daughter making apple candles this was hours before the meal, then I took more images of the apple candles all finished and when she set the table and put the candles out. I didn’t stop there, I finally took a photo of the candle lit and with some of the food being served around it. I liked photos for a scrapbooking theme of the progress of the apple candles. This theme was great digital scrapbooking page to add to my Thanksgiving album a well!

What about taking photos of people watching Holiday Sports?! Children playing and scampering around the house? Teens playing video games – gaming is getting very interesting to watch these days as people are standing up and moving all around to play – these activities offer some interesting photos! Happy holiday memories happen all over the place and it is great to capture more of the fun so you can put these things in the scrapbooking pages too!

What about taking photos of “Thanksgiving firsts” for your scrapbooking projects. For example, a new baby’s first Thanksgiving, a daughter/son’s first time to cook the turkey, and a grandfather’s first time to play Wii or other video games! The scrapper should take some pictures of these “firsts” and put the photos into a scrapbooking album of Thanksgiving “firsts”!

In this image, I scrapped my daughter and son-in-law’s first Thanksgiving they hosted! It was so much fun – read about it and Turkey ideas in this blog: Let’s Talk Turkey! Digital Scrapbooking the Turkey Experience!

Here are some extra tips for Taking Thanksgiving photos:

Make sure your digital camera’s battery is charged

If you will be busy – leave disposable cameras around to get others to help with the picture taking too!

Give a teenager a camera and a list of photos to look for and ask them to make sure and cover this events

Don’t forget to get some good Thanksgiving Digital Scrapbooking supplies to make the digital scrapbooking pages after Thanksgiving!

Holiday Rolls a Way to Scrap Recipes to Save them for Family and Friends
(Originally posted 11/20/2009 by Denise Bell)

What would Thanksgiving be without homemade rolls? For me the rolls are my favorite part of a holiday dinner.

I loved them and my mother made great rolls while her children were growing up but at that point in my life I didn’t want to learn how to make them and so…..I didn’t.

A few years later I really regretted it because my mom’s health had deteriorated to the point that she couldn’t bake anymore and couldn’t show me how to bake yummy rolls. Now I had the desire and no one to show me that is until I met my friend Janette.

Janette is an older woman that took me under her wing and looked out for me for a few years when my children were little and I had all of the challenges that young motherhood brings.

One of the many things that Janette taught me was how to make her Parker House Roll recipe.

It is so much easier that I had imagined and I would love to share this recipe with any of you that may need a fabulous roll recipe that you can be confident will produce beautiful rolls.

I used to just save my recipes on handwritten cards – but have since realized that this type of keeping a recipe will probably over time be lost.

Instead I have decide to take my favorite recipes like this Holiday roll recipe and scrap them!

If I scrap them and put them in a recipe album it makes it easier to pass them on to my children or give the recipes to family and friends

I can add photos and scrap pages with the whole recipe, and put on a recipe like the Holiday Rolls. Another way is to take photos of each of the steps and scrap the information on how to make the recipe step by step too!

The nice part is since it is digital, I can make it once and give it to as many people as I like! I can email my digital scrapbooking recipes to everyone, or I can print out copies for family and friends too!

It is easy to make lasting memories and keep your recipes preserved when you digital scrap them!

One digital scrapbooking kit I like to use for Thanksgiving recipes is the Fall Foliage Digital Scrapbooking Kit 2 because it comes with digital recipe cards, a digital pen, and fall embellishments like colorful leaves and fall colored digital papers. This is the kit I used to scrap the recipe pages on this blog.

If you would like my recipe to put into your own holiday recipe scrap book here it is!

Holiday Roll Recipe

Here is the recipe and the process for making the rolls that make my holiday dinner special.

Mix the following ingredients in a large bowl, I use the large Tupperware bowl

3 Cups of Milk
1 Cup of real butter (it is important that you use real butter)
Microwave 7-8 minutes or until butter melts
Add 1 more cup of milk to the hot mixture
1 Cup Sugar
1 Tablespoon Salt

Mix well and Dump 6 Cups of flour in the liquid mixture. Make a well with a spoon in the flour and add

4 eggs and 3 Tablespoon Quick Rising Yeast so that they rest in the flour

Begin Mixing (you may use a regular hand mixer)

Continue to add flour up to 12 Cups until you have a nice consistency. When you have added about 9 cups of flour you might want to mix with a wooden spoon. When the dough is mixed well, let it sit and rise until double. This normally takes 1 ½ to 2 hour. Punch the dough down and raise another 45 minutes to 1 hour.

On a clean cutting board or counter top sprinkle a thin layer of flour. Divide the dough into three sections and roll the dough out one section at a time and cut the dough out in a circle shape. I use a large plastic cup or glass mug to cut my rolls out. While you are cutting the rolls out, set a large cookie sheet on the stove and melt 3 Tablespoon of real butter on a low heat. Then when you are finished cutting out the dough take each circle and set it in the melted butter and flip it over, fold it in half and flip it over again. Form the dough into a crescent shape and pinch the dough shut by pressing down with your fingers. Lay the crescent shapes so they are touching each other slightly on the sides, front, and back. I lay 4 rolls across and 7 rolls down. This recipe makes 5 dozen rolls. Leftover rolls freeze nicely to use with a future meal.

Let the dough rise about 1 hour and bake on 400 for 11-13 minutes.

Use this Recipe to make a variation – Orange Rolls:

I also enjoy Orange Rolls. To make this option, grate an orange peeling into a bowl and add a half cup of white sugar.

Make the same as you would the rolls but before folding the roll in half place a small teaspoon of the sugar mixture on the roll.

These are good as a treat or a dinner roll.

Use this Same Recipe for Even More kinds of Holiday Rolls!

One of the best things about this recipe is that there are so many optional treats that you can make with the dough.

My favorites are Brown Sugar and Butter cakes that I serve with whipped topping on Christmas morning and Orange Rolls that go great with any celebration dinner.

After the circles of dough have been cut out in the basic roll recipe, you can either mix the dough back together so that you can make more rolls or you can set the scraps of dough off to the side to make brown sugar cakes for breakfast or a treat.

Spray Cooking Spray in a pan and lay the sections of scraps of dough together like a puzzle. Make a thumbprint in the pieces and dot the scraps with a small piece of butter and a dab of Brown sugar. Let rise and bake on 400 for 11 – 13 minutes. Served hot with Whipped Cream on top.

These are an especially wonderful treat to share with your friends and neighbors on a cold winter evening.

You can even make this same recipe into cinnamon rolls, just by adding melted butter, cinnamon sugar, raisins and nuts when you first roll out the dough, but don’t cut into circles. Then roll the dough up, and cut into 1/2 inch slices. Put in each slice in a pan like the basic roll recipe and then let raise and bake.

May the warmth and yummy smells of home baked goods bring joy to and your families this holiday season.

Denise

Let’s Talk Turkey! Digital Scrapbooking the Turkey Experience!
(Originally posted 11/12/2009)

As we look forward to Thanksgiving coming up soon, it is time to think about the main dish – the Turkey!

I remember my first turkey experience. It happened shortly after I moved away from family to California – so out of necessity I got to cook my first turkey for Thanksgiving.

I was pregnant with my second child and only about a week away from delivery and had been put on bed rest, so while I was flipping through the channels on the TV I came across a cooking show with Julia Child talking about a great way to cook a Turkey for Thanksgiving.

I liked the way she was doing it because it seemed easy because this recipe she was demonstrating did not include stuffing inside the Turkey. The whole idea of preparing the turkey with stuffing cooked inside the turkey seemed overwhelming for my first Thanksgiving Turkey alone! I didn’t want my turkey undercooked because of the stuffing. Also I didn’t want the stuffing soggy because of all the turkey juices. And then there was getting stuffing right like trying to stuff the turkey when the stuffing was cool so the bacteria wouldn’t grow – this scare was all over the news and air waves at time – scaring young cooks everywhere – or at least me!

Julia Child’s recipe (best I can remember how it went) – put butter under the turkey skin (butter of course – it is Julia Child after all!) Next take sliced oranges, apples and onions and put them in the cavity instead of stuffing. The stuffing was cooked separate in a casserole dish instead! This let me deal with the turkey and the stuffing each on their own terms – this made it manageable for me! To my surprise all the fruit baked with the turkey made for the most tender and juicy turkey I had ever tasted…not bad for a first try! Also, the fruit flavored the turkey with a very interesting and delicate, secret flavor that make it stand out from other roasted turkeys I and others at my dinner had tasted. This made my my turkey a very memorable and much talked about turkey as I don’t think as many people use this method so the turkey stands out as something wonderfully different from the run of the mill roasted turkey recipes!

Over the years I have modified the recipe, one of the first things I took advantage of was the Turkey Baking bag – it holds the juices in even more, and you don’t have to baste the turkey and the clean up is a breeze. You can prepare the Turkey in the bag the day before, with all the fruit and then just pop it in the oven on Thanksgiving, sit back enjoy the day! This was a big plus for me, no fussing, just relaxing! During the last 30 years, I have added a few more things inside the Turkey beside just the apples, oranges and onions, I now put some fresh cranberry and fresh herbs too! It always seem to turn out great year to year and I love the broth to make gravy from that has the hint of herbs and fruit!

So last a few years ago it came full circle as I went to the home of my daughter and her husband for Thanksgiving (the daughter I was pregnant with when I cooked my first turkey).

She was cooking her first Turkey and had been so nervous about it that she had practiced the week before on several chickens to make sure she could get it all right before we showed up.

Of course, her first Turkey was wonderful and she had done a great job and we had a wonderful meal and terrific time! She reminded me of my first turkey cooking experience and it was fun to see her wonderful cooking accomplishments that day.

These are the kind of of things that need to be recorded and scrapped to keep the memories alive. I am so glad we took lots of photos of her first Turkey so she can show her children when they cook their first turkey too!

These events are to precious to just get lost in the closet or worse yet forgotten on some computer disk to be lost forever!

When these photos are taken and scrapped and turned into albums or other digital scrapbooking projects then they can be remembered and shared.

Also when cooking is involved it is wonderful to keep those recipes written down and shared. For example my daughter’s husband came up with a wonderful turkey gravy recipe for that thanksgiving dinner, but a year later when I asked for the recipe the exact ingredients and amounts had been forgotten! Especially sad as the recipe didn’t involve any flour or cornstarch to thicken it and it was the best turkey gravy I had ever tasted!

So we have all learned — to cook with a pen and note pad now! We write down recipes as things get made. Then later we type them up and add them to our digital scrapbooking pages, and put them in a binder to use later!

We also make email versions of our scrap pages and email them to family and friends. It is a way to share our recipes, events and scrapbooking pages too!

Thanksgiving is around the corner and before we know it we will be rushing around the grocery store, baking up a storm and visiting with family and friends.

Sounds like fun, however for many family members, neighbors, and acquaintances the holidays are anything but fun.

Some of these wonderful people don’t have family close by to share a meal with, some may have lost a loved one during this time of year and it brings back those memories, and some may have financial struggles that keep them from celebrating in a manner that brings them peace and joy.

How can we make the holidays pleasant for those around us that may struggle through them for one reason or another.

We can start looking around right now to see whose life we can try to brighten up and whose load we can lighten before the holiday is here.

Some suggestions I would like to make are simple but meaningful.

Giving service to a person in need is a wonderful way to lighten a burden. Rake leaves, sit and visit, invite them for a family activity or meal.

Maybe help someone by offering to babysit while them go to the grocery store. Do a Craft with your children and then take a neighbor a simple gift such as a homemade placemat made from autumn leaves and contact paper.

Read someone a story or how about helping a child with their homework? There are so many things we can do to be of service to people of all ages that are around us.

So as I think about how busy my life is and how insanely busy the holidays become, I have a goal to slow down just enough to serve somebody else.

More ideas might be as simple as making cookies for a friend, and take some time to talk to them, listening to what they have to say —which is sometimes the greatest gift!

Ask about their family and sit and look through old photo albums with them, offer to scan some of those photos for them.

You might put some of the scanned photos on a digital frame for them so they can enjoy their photos!

Also it is big help to help someone organize their digital photos, maybe even offering to scrap some of digital photos for them, and show them how to get them printed out into albums!

(Note: see the training for fixing scanned photos, training for organizing digital photos and see a mobile scanner that is handy to take to out – see these at bottom of this blog!)

Maybe in the process of doing service we will make a new friend, for sure making a happy memory, and will spread some sunshine around.

Get your children involved, get your whole family part of the service, and when it is possible gather your friends to help out too!

Remember that no matter what your holiday looks like, it will always be happier if you can bring a smile to someone else’s face.

Also remember to take a camera to capture their smile, and yours of course!

And although this special American holiday is one that the whole family can be thankful for, it seems as though in today’s modern-society, that this holiday is focused more around adults and not as much around children.

Enjoying festivities that adults participate in, is always nice, but am I the only one that thinks this holiday is more adult-friendly than kid-friendly?

Think about it: On Christmas or Halloween, for example, so many of the traditions, games, or activities are centered around children; but not quite as many are aimed specifically at kids when it comes to Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving Day, there’s no magical, giant Turkey handing out presents to the kids because they have been thankful all year; no one I know participates in Turkey-egg hunts; and I have never seen my neighbors hand-out candy to kids dressed up as birds because it’s Thanksgiving…. Have you?

I do think that most children really appreciate and love Thanksgiving Day, but with all the other cool, kid-obsessed holidays out there, Thanksgiving has some tough competition! Here’s an easy-fix: By creating games, activities, and special Thanksgiving traditions specifically for your children, you can create a more kid-friendly Thanksgiving holiday this year.

Creating games and crafts to keep your kids preoccupied, busy, and happy is always nice while you are busy cooking, visiting, or watching the holiday games on TV.

Get your kids excited for this special day by participating in activities that match the theme of this special day! Create memories and create new holiday traditions this year!

One of the ways you can create some Thanksgiving activities for children is by using Digital Custom Brushes! Like this Thanksgiving brush set (see the image). It has lot of great images that can be made into things like coloring pages.

Turn Custom Brushes into Coloring Pages!

Did you know that you can turn your digital scrapbooking custom brushes into your very own coloring pages for your kids? You are not alone… many people don’t know about this simple brush trick!

Creating games and crafts to keep your kids preoccupied, busy, and happy is always a constant challenges as a mother! It can be hard to think of new activities… in fact, it can seem like a full-time job!

But, Custom Brushes are definitely one of the easiest ways to create in quick coloring pages for kids. Coloring Pages made from custom brushes can save money and keep children entertained during Thanksgiving.

Custom brushes are easy to use, and once you get into digital scrapbooking, you will absolutely love them! If you get the right set of Custom Brushes then you can easily turn them into coloring pages and fun activities for children!

Here is the secret to a good brush to use for a coloring page - if you use a brush that looks more like line art (instead of more solid-looking digital brush) then you can enlarge the size of the brush, stamp it on a digital page, and then print it out for a home-made coloring page!

Using the same custom brush set (Thanksgiving Brush Set), I selected the cornucopia and turkey brush and “stamped” them on separate new documents in Photoshop Elements (or Photoshop).

I liked this brush set because it had lots of designs that were in outlines, perfect for a coloring page! After I “stamped” the Thanksgiving brushes out on my pages, then I used my home printer to print it out.

Just like magic, now I have a great coloring page to give to the kids!

Don’t forget the crayons!

This makes great coloring pages for kids to do while I prepare the Thanksgiving dinner!

After they are all colored then you can glue them on a larger colored paper and turn them into a place mat for Thanksgiving dinner too!

Also, if you want “stamp” a few extra on place cards and have the children color those too! That will make dinner fun and memorable, and in addition keep the children engaged and busy too!

Have the kids color thanksgiving place cards — How to Make Place Cards (and More) using Photoshop Elements 8 training is a fabulous way to learn how to make your own place cards for dinner parties, gift cards for presents, and so much more!

The big Thanksgiving Feast might be over but there are still many photo taking opportunities and the scrapbooking is just getting started!

The days after Thanksgiving can hold special memories too! So it is nice to try to capture some of those events too!

What does your family do after Thanksgiving and before everyone is back to school and work?

Whatever you do during that time it is fun to capture and scrap some of those memories!

Here are some ideas for getting more fun photos after Thanksgiving but before sending the kids back to school!

After Thanksgiving Photo Opportunities:

Leftovers (I always like trying a new recipe with my Thanksgiving leftovers, this gives lots of photo and scrapbooking opportunities!)

Shopping – after Thanksgiving is such a fun time to shop! Get my girls and off we would go. I love getting pic of us all together bargain hunting!

Games or kids or “big kids” playing

Making holiday crafts – with children home it is nice to keep them busy with crafts

Putting up the Christmas Tree – we always put the tree up the Thanksgiving weekend – great for photos that can be scrapped later

Wrapping presents

Nature – go on a hike, even around your block and take some nature photos. Nature provides lots of interesting photo opportunities that can be woven into scrapping!

Kids dressed up or at bus stop going back to school

These photos can be the final pages in your Thanksgiving Album!

Enjoy!

—–

Pumpkin Pie, Holidays, and Digital Scrapbooking a few of my Favorite Things!

I love pumpkin pie, I love the holidays and I love digital scrapbooking all of it!

Around the holidays it is fun to take lots of photos of holiday decorations, family and food. But don’t forget to snap some photos of the the pumpkin pie!

The pumpkin pie can be the star of lots of great digital scrapbooking pages. You can scrap preparing and baking it, you can scrap the finished pie, scrap it sitting on your lovely holiday table looking pretty, and scrap everyone eating it!

But first before you start digitally scrapbooking all your great pumpkin pie photo opportunities or even the pumpkin pie recipe itself, it might be fun to know about one of the most famous pumpkin pie recipes! That would be LIBBY’S® Famous Pumpkin Pie. This is the traditional holiday pumpkin pie on most people’s holiday menu. Did you know that this classic recipe has been on LIBBY’S® Pumpkin labels since 1950.

Here are some Libby resources:

Recipe: LIBBY’S® Famous Pumpkin Pie

Once you have a recipe it is time to go ahead and start making the pie. Have you digital camera around and handy to take photos of the whole process from beginning to end!

Once things slow down after the holidays you can take your digital photos and start scrapping them.

It is nice to start out with a kit that has fall colors, and it doesn’t hurt to have the embellishments to go along too!

Like this Fall Foliage Digi Scrapbooking Kit 1 that has recipe cards with Thanksgiving colors and images, as well as WordArt that says fall inspired words, including “Thanksgiving!”

Then have your page turned in to a wonderful Thanksgiving Album!

Have a wonderful time making your pumpkin pies!

Enjoy!

Thanksgiving is almost here and as digital scrapbookers, we usually get all excited about all the flashy Digital Scrapbooking Kits, digital embellishments, digital papers, and forget about the Custom Thanksgiving Brushes for using in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

Compared to a digital scrapbooking kits, the black custom brush kits don’t look that exciting. They usually just look like black, white and shades of gray images – how boring! But for anyone that has used a custom brush they will tell you custom brushes are wonderful and have many more uses than you might first guess too!

For example, the Thanksgiving Custom Brush Set , (see the image on the left) is how a brush kit might look.

Usually, custom brushes are variations of black and gray colors only when you first get them. But when you use your brush the magic begins as you load your own colors into the brush in your graphic program like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Like magic, the custom brush doesn’t have to be black anymore!

Use Brushes to add more detail to your Digital Scrapbooking Projects!

A favorite way that digital scrapbookers like using the custom brushes is to use them in the way a traditional scrapbooker would use a rubber stamp; by picking up the ink on the stamp and “stamping” on a paper or tag.

Well, custom brushes can be used like this… only a digital-version of a rubber stamp!

In the example to the right you can see the brush in Photoshop Elements and the tag that was “stamped”.

You pick your custom brush, pick your color and “stamp” your digital tag or digital paper!

For example, the image of the tag and the outline of the cornucopia is the actual brush tool moving away from the paper after “stamping”, and the image of the brown cornucopia on the tag is the “stamped” brush after is is applied to the tag! The black brush in the kit, now with color applied and “stamped,” makes the brown cornucopia image!

Here is how it looks when you are done – see image below:

You can see how this tag was made up more as a Thanksgiving Holiday tag than just a regular tag.

Also you can use custom brushes for print projects as well.

If you have been following the blogs – in yesterday’s day blog we talked about making place cards with digital embellishments but you can also use brushes the same way on place cards. Below is an image of the same place card template in Photoshop Elements but this time we used brushes instead of digital embellishments.

In (#1) the Thanksgiving outline brush was used with a color. This is nice if you want a simple design. Also fun if you want your young Thanksgiving guests to color in their place card design! (See more about coloring later in this blog!)

Next look at (#2) in the image above. This Thanksgiving Leaf is a more solid brush so it is nice to pick up a color and use it as a more prominent design feature on this place card, tag or what ever you “stamp” with this kind of custom brush.

Now look at (#3) this is the same solid type brush used in #2 but has a layer style applied to it. This makes it look more 3-D and almost like a digital embellishment.

You could use this same idea to make a Thanksgiving invitation or a Thanksgiving card!

Just by using the Thanksgiving brush set to “stamp” a pattern on, then customize into a invitation or card, print and you are ready to go!

Bet brushes aren’t looking as boring now!

But wait there is more!

Custom Brushes can be used to Make Coloring Pages for Kids!

Custom brushes are definitely one of the easiest ways to create in quick coloring pages for kids. Coloring Pages made from custom brushes can save money and keep children entertained during the holidays. You can make Thanksgiving color pages for children to color while your are cooking the turkey!

Custom brushes are easy to use, and once you get into digital scrapbooking, you will absolutely love them! If you use a brush that looks more like line art (instead of more solid-looking digital brush) then you can enlarge the size of the brush, stamp it on a digital page, and then print it out for a home-made coloring page!

Creating games and crafts to keep your kids preoccupied, busy, and happy is always nice while you are busy cooking, visiting, or watching the holiday games on TV. Get your kids excited for this special day by making color pages from your custom brushes! Create memories and create new holiday traditions this year!

Everything so far has been made from this one Thanksgiving Custom Brush Set can you believe that! Again brushes are not so boring as one might first think!!!!

But wait there is more!

Custom Brushes Contain Even More Fun When you Colorize Them!

By taking a brush from the Thanksgiving Custom Brush Set and colorizing them, you can turn them into embellishments to add to your digital scrapbooking pages!

By colorizing, I mean to take a black and white (or gray-toned) custom brush and apply different colors to different areas of the brushed image. Doing this makes a black and gray-toned “stamped” brush look more like a colored brush embellishment …which means it can look and act more like a digital embellishment (like, adding drop shadow), than a simple-looking “stamped” brush image.

It’s common for beginner digital scrapbookers to overlook custom brushes when they add digital accessories to their digital scrapbooking projects. Many beginner scrappers aren’t as familiar with custom brushes and don’t realize the potential of a good custom brush, especially when they’re choosing supplies filled with pretty, sparkly, eye-catching digital embellishments! But you can also turn your brushes into fancy embellishments if you simply colorize them!

Step 1: ”Stamp” the brush. I took this custom brush and applied it to a new document using black as the outline color within Photoshop Elements (you can also do this in Photoshop). This brush is great because it was designed as an outline-brush… which is perfect for us to colorize in the following steps.

Step 2: Colorize your “stamped” brush!

Truthfully, a custom brush might look a little boring unless you decide to add a little color! Once you apply some color to your custom brush, it’s amazing how they can change right before your eyes and become so colorful and exciting!

Next, I applied different colors to the brush image. Adding a little color works wonders, and yes, because I did take a few extra steps to personalize the brush, I could color it in the way that I wanted it to be colored! Unlike pre-colored digital embellishments, I could color my turkey brush embellishment in any colors I want!

After seeing this change in the brush embellishment, brushes are starting to seem a lot more magical, aren’t they?!

Step 3: Add some effects- like a drop shadow.

Yes, if done correctly you can now add a drop shadow to your colorized brush embellishment. A drop shadow will make it appear more 3-D and less like a flat image.

(For more information about brushes and how to colorize them, please see our brush training in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.)

Once a brush is colorized you can add them to your Thanksgiving Scrapbooking pages or projects!

See the example below of how this brush that is turned into a cute digital scrapbooking embellishment is added to a Thanksgiving Digital Scrapbooking Page:

This brush has turned out to be such a great Thanksgiving embellishment.
