Start the Birthday Right – Start with a Good Game, then take Photos and Scrap the Fun!

Having a birthday for a young child? Not sure what to do as the children are so young? Wondering how to keep youngsters entertained? Just need a few good ideas?

To the rescue – a party game! It is fun to have some age appropriate games to get the party going. And below are a few that can work well with younger children.

Also, games your youngster can enjoy at a party can really make for great photos too. Then scrapping these photos can be a real treasure as well as helping to save the memories. This can be a nice way for your child to look back on this birthday, especially if they were too young to remember it.

So plan now and get some fun party games for your youngster’s birthday party.

A few Party Game Ideas for Young Children:

Birthday on Parade Make your own birthday party parade by giving children musical instruments – drums, shakers, horns, etc., line them up in a straight line and have them follow you around the house or yard playing their birthday instruments.
Dancing
Put on some lively music then dance! Young Children love to dance. Play music and let them freestyle dance.
Freeze Dance Game
Have everyone dance and when you call out “Freeze!” everyone must freeze in that position. Then say “Unfreeze” and have them dance again.
Draw the child’s outline
Get some poster paper, and have each child lay down and then trace them with a marker. Let each child take color crayons and color themselves. For really young children have parents help and don’t worry about staying in the lines!
Bubble Games
Keep young children busy with bubbles! Children love bubbles and to have their own bottle of bubbles usually makes a big hit! Blow bubbles and see if they can pop the bubbles before they hit the floor. Then see who can catch bubbles with their hands. If you have older children at the birthday party see if they can blow the biggest or smallest bubble.
Treasure Hunt Games
Take large plastic eggs and put candy or party favors in them, and hide eggs around the living room, backyard or park. Make sure the candy or favors are age-appropriate – you don’t want anyone to chock. Have the children hunt for the eggs. Each child can keep the eggs they find.
The Hokey Pokey Game
Children love to play this simple game. Here are the directions in case you’ve forgotten how play this old game for children’s parties. Have children stand in a circle. The leader begins the song and have everyone join in. Leader puts their right arm in the circle and sings “You put your right arm in … you take your right arm out … you put your right arm in and you shake it all about .. you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around and that’s what it’s all about! While singing the song put your right arm in the circle, take your right arm out, put your right arm in and then shake it up and down, then have your index fingers point to the sky while turning yourself in a circle, clap the last line of the song … That’s what it’s all about! Next try putting your leg in and take it out .. keep going till everyone has all their wiggles out.
Have a Piñata
Even if the children are to young to break it open. It looks great in the photos and on the scrapbooking pages! It can be used as a decoration if the children are to young to actually play! Or just have the older children select a younger child swing for them, once the piñata is open have the older child gather some goodies for the younger child too!

With a few of these ideas you should have loads of fun and have the chance to get lots of great photos that you can scrap later on!

Save Birthday Memories by Scrapping them!

My baby girl turned 11 years old yesterday. Not only did she get her dream gift, a new puppy, but she also had a great time celebrating her birthday with friends and family.

I had to laugh as my husband said “I thought we celebrated her birthday when she got the puppy.” Anyone who knows me, and that should include my husband, knows that I celebrate everyone in my families’ birthday for at least a week! The more celebrating the better right?

With the celebrating comes lots and lots of pictures. But not all of the pictures were ones that I took. This is why I love email.

I just asked everyone at her party to send me all of the pictures that they took. Some of them were gems.

I don’t often get to be in a picture since I am the one taking them, so I was so pleasantly surprised when one of the pictures that were emailed to me were of me and my daughter.

I will love and cherish the picture. I also adore the picture that I took at the pool of her and a couple of her friends on her birthday. I love the photo of her blowing out the candle on her birthday cupcakes too!

I am so glad that I had my cell phone and could easily email that picture to myself for scrapping later, as I didn’t have my digital camera handy.

One of the best birthday gifts that my daughter received for her birthday was a scrapbook page after the party! What a thoughtful friend! Scrapping a scrap page and printing it out is great gift to give on any occasion and great way to save great memories too!

Take a look around. Most people are not recording the precious moments in life.

Giving the gift of a scrapbook page is always a winning idea. It is always a good idea to include the date of the event and the occasion of the event that the pictures were taken on.

Another idea, Giving pictures that are from a person’s childhood or giving pictures to an adult of their parents and other special people in their life is always such a meaningful way to tell someone you love them.

Enjoy your precious moments and remember that there can never be too much celebrating in life. Can there?

Birthday Blogging, Jonathan is turning One, and I am going to Digitally Scrap It!

My sweet little boy will be turning 1 soon. I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by. It doesn’t feel like it was that long ago that he was a teeny tiny thing, just a few days old, or that he could barely roll over, let alone walk (like he can now!). There are times that I still expect a big gummy smile out of my son instead of a smile full of baby teeth. This first year has been such a special and new experience for a first-time Momma like myself. From nursing, to changing diapers, or just trying getting him to sleep in his crib for naps, my everyday life for the last year has been nothing like the years before, and so much better than I ever imagined life could be. It has made me grow tremendously in such a short amount of time. Becoming a mom has made me a stronger, better person… Not to mention, a better multi-tasker too!

The love that I feel for this little soul is like no other and his precious life gives me so much purpose. It’s been a pleasure being the momma to this beautiful, wonderful boy. That’s why for his very first birthday I wanted to spend a few extra minutes preparing some special items for him. He won’t remember this very first party, like all the other “first” holidays this year, but maybe the extra efforts I make now will be cherished in years to come. Here are some of my special projects for my baby boy’s 1st birthday party:

-A Digital Scrapbook Album. From photos to special certificates, letters, cards, and other keepsakes, I will combine my physical items with digital supplies and make a scrapbook of my sweet son and his first year of life.

Or, I will take the physical items and scan them, turning them into digital items to scrap into my digital scrapbooking page!

Not only will this be something incredibly special that he may appreciate when he is older, but will be fun for his birthday party guests to flip through as they spend the day celebrating with us.

After I have scrapped all the digital pages I can turn them into a physical scrapbooking album by sending my digital scrapbooking pages to an Online Printing Company

This will be a special way to keep the memories alive! Scrapbooking Photo Albums are nice ways to share a first birthday – give one to Grandma too!

-Signed Photo Frame. I’ll be printing my favorite recent photo of Jonathan on my printer or through an online printing company and letting party guests sign the matte around the photo before framing it.

This will be a special and personalized gift for my babe and a great way for friends and family to share favorite memories with him.

Ps. a great online company to make framed photo is Snapfish.com (also this can make the digital scrapbooking album mentioned above, and the mini photo books mentioned below!)

-Mini Photo Books. You can make mini photo albums/books through online printing companies. They are typically a great way to show off favorite photos to friends while you’re out. Simply toss the mini book in your purse or car! It takes so little space and makes bragging about your little one a breeze!

But in this case, I’ll be making mini photo books of my son and his baby friends over the past year and giving them away as “party favors!” It will be a fun surprise to my mom friends when they see our babes photos together in a little book they can keep.

Although I have many more party details to plan, I know for sure that my camera will be charged and ready to snap photos on my son’s big day! His first birthday party will be the very first many birthday pages I digitally scrap.

1st Birthday Ideas and Digital Scrapbooking

My little grandson is coming up on his 1st birthday this month, so this has put me in the mood for digital scrapbooking first birthdays, and blogging about them too!

I think with a little preparation parents and grandparents can make a 1st birthday extra special, and get some great photos for digital scrapbooking too!

Hosting your child’s first birthday party is definitely not for the faint of heart! The prospect lots of cute little one year olds toddling around grabbing toys, trying birthday treats for the first time, getting games especially fun for one year olds, making the party fun for parents as well, and more… can be quite the event to pull off! Especially for new parents!

But, the old fashioned pleasure of celebrating your child’s first birthday can also be such a very special event as well!

Fun birthday party ideas, tips and activities, digital scrapbooking resources for the 1st birthday party!

Here are some ideas to help make fun parties for one year olds and should give you a chance for some great photos for scrapping too!

Party tips for 1st Birthday:

Nap first, party after! Try to plan the first birthday party for just after nap time so your child will be awake and happy. If this isn’t possible then try and have the party as early in the day as you can.
Keep it short and sweet! Keep the party between 1 and 1 1/2 hours. Remember little people have shorter attention spans and they will have more fun in shorter doses.
Make a cake for the birthday toddler and a separate one for other guests. Make a large cake for guests and smaller cake for the one year old to enjoy. The smaller cake could even be a cupcake – something you don’t mind the birthday child getting all over the place as they crumble the cake and enjoy it as only a one year could do!
Work ahead of the party. Try to do as much of the party decorations, food preparation, and game set up ahead of the party and if possible like a few days ahead or the day before. Trying get everything ready the day of the party is stressful, makes everyone cranky and tired!!!
Fun Party Games for 1st Birthdays Plan fun games for one year olds that are age appropriate for 1st birthday parties.
Make a Time capsule. Create a special time capsule of the first birthday. (Maybe a time capsule they add to every 5th birthday, and will be opened on your child 18th birthday.) Ask party guests to write a special notes for the time capsule. Plan ahead and even include out-of-town relatives by asking them to send a special first birthday note and including it in the box too. Maybe the special notes could include what they hope for the child’s future and what fun thing they have noticed about the child at one year. Try this for the time capsule –fill a photo album with pictures of your child’s first year. On the margins around the pictures ask party guests, family and friends to write special thoughts, memories or wishes to the birthday child include this album in the time capsule! Add some photos from the party, other items that might be fun to include in the Time Capsule like an toy of the birthday child. Then seal up the capsule, place it somewhere safe and then when the years have passed you will have a wonderful surprise for your child and something they will treasure forever.
Keep 1st Birthdays safe. Keep the party safe for your one year old for example: make sure party favors and toys are large enough that they cannot fit through a paper towel or toilet paper tube to avoid a choking hazard
Make some 1st Birthday Memories that are great for Photos. Get a special birthday hat like this Fun to Be 1 Hat. Or how about making a shirt with a large #1 on the front. You can draw this on a shirt with a permanent marker or find an iron on transfer and use Photoshop or Elements to make a cute design. Many craft stores sell iron on transfer paper that allow you to print out a transfer directly from your printer. Or how about this idea? Tie helium balloons to the high chair to create a backdrop for pictures! If you are inviting several one year olds to the party have their parents bring their high chairs to the party and line them up all with the children enjoying the birthday cake in their high chairs all together! These ideas are great for photos that you might want to scrap later!

Scrapbooking ideas:

Get some great text for your scrapbook! Leave blank note cards out for the guest to write birthday notes. Set the pages out on a table with plenty of pens and markers.

Ask guests, family members and friends to fill the pages with handwritten messages and well wishes for the one year old.

Then scan these handwritten pages and insert the text with the pictures from the party into your digital scrapbooking page!

Take the photos you took at the party to create a scrapbook of all the first birthday celebration!

Many babies are born in Spring time. Are you preparing for a loved ones birthday? Need some resources to help you get started? Want to digitally scrap the event too?

We took the Strawberry Ice Cream mentioned above and scrapped a recipe with it and then other party photos so we could remember the Birthday events, the food and the recipes!

We used the Tea Party Digital Scrapbooking Kit 2 (8.5×11″ paper size) again.

This scrapbooking project was easy because the kit we chose actually included a tea party Recipe Card!

Spring Birthdays and Digital Scrapbooking Ideas

Here it is Spring – lots of babies are born in Spring time. Are you preparing for a loved ones birthday? Need some resources to help you get started? Want to digitally scrap the event too?

If you answered yes to one or more of the questions above, then you are in the right place!

When I was young, my mother hosted wonderful themed birthday parties for myself and my brothers and sister. They were so fun and seemed so magical!

But now, being a mother myself, I look back and am so surprised about how she always came up with new and fresh ideas (after all, she didn’t have the internet back then!).

If you are about to plan a Spring Birthday Party yourself, here are some ideas that might be useful and help to capture wonderful photos for digitally scrapping those special birthday memories too!

When the party is over and you have lots of great digital photos, it is now time to make great digital scrapbooking pages… to save all those special birthday memories, of course!

Choose a digital scrapbooking kit, get your digital photos, and start scrapping your Spring Birthday party!

Once you have the scrapbooking kit that matches your party theme then you can start adding photos, digital papers, and embellishments to create your party scrapbooking pages.

In this digital scrapbooking page I also used a custom brush to put the birthday cake on the tag!

The custom Birthday brushes are great to use for digital scrapbooking projects. You can “stamp” them on digital scrapbooking tags and then use them in digital scrapbooking pages.

Then plan the Winter Party Activities!

Give each person a disposable camera and take a walk around the block taking winter photos! (Great for scrapbooking later too!)
Indoor – pin the carrot nose to a image of a Snowman
