Scrap a Calendar All About Me!

It all started last week when my children sparked a great idea for Christmas gifts, so I thought I would share.

I was bringing my son home from the end of the year Little League Football Party and I realized I had not sent my son with a gift for his sports coaches.

I asked him if any of the mom’s had collected money and bought a gift for the coaches.

He said one mom had made a calendar of the the coach, and the year of all the sports activities at the school!

This mom had given one of these special calendars to each coach, and had personalized it for each of them too! Adding their own photos to the calendar pages!

Well, I thought this was a great idea and gift. How special to have a personalized calendar as a holiday gift. The next year will be filled with special memories as each month comes and new photo is displayed!

As my family talked this great gift, I had to laugh when my eleven year old daughter spoke up and said “I want a calendar that is all about me!” My first thought was that she was so self centered but that thought left quickly when I realized that everyone deserves to be acknowledged and really, who doesn’t want a calendar that is all about them!

I know your are thinking this is too much work so close to the holidays! … but wait! But read on… I have an idea for that too!

Make Calendar Pages for Your Children

Guess what? … each of my kids are getting calendar for Christmas… all about them!

Another reason the calendar gift is great for each of my children is because our schedules are all so busy as a family and most of the time I don’t write on my calendar what the kids schedules are.

Because this happens often I sometimes find myself living day to day wondering what is happening that afternoon or night in my kids lives and hurrying to make it to this activity or that.

Making a Calendar for each Child lets me write there schedule down too!

This will simplify my life if I can get each of them to write their schedule on their calendar and then each week I can visit each of their rooms where their calendar will be hanging and transfer their schedule to my calendar.

I think my calendar will be more organized, less messy looking, and I will keep up with my family in a more efficient way. Plus, this makes the calendar sort of a diary or journal of events for each child too!

See other Ideas:

There are several different ideas for making the calendar, personalized for your special child or children.

For example, how about starting with photos of the year they were born and put baby pictures in January?

Then each month continue with other photos of them as young children until the last month has a photo of the age they are now.

More ideas:

Or just keep the whole calendar about using photos of them as a child, or some other period of time in their life.

Or pick photos of them last year and add them to each month of the calendar.

Another idea is to pick the activities they are involved in and put the pictures of the activities on the months they participate in. Like school dances, dates, or sports, spelling bees, and MORE!

Or make the calendar of them with friends.

You could also have calendar pages with your child and Grandma, or a favorite uncle or other special extended family.

Even more ideas:

You could do a special places page of their favorite hang outs. There are so many directions you could go with this “All about me theme.”

I am going to get started now.

This is going to be so much fun!

Join us in scrapping one digital scrapbooking page per month.

As a digital scrapbooker I like to make interesting scrapbooking gifts as presents for all of my friends and family (like personalized calendars, puzzles, mouse pads, coffee mugs, aprons, greeting cards, framed scrap pages, or photo/digital scrapbooking albums). I like taking the scrapbooking pages I scrap and turn them into gifts.

It all started when I made goal To Digitally Scrap One Page a Month is My Goal for this Year!

Every since then I make a new scrapbooking page once a month which I can use to make very special gifts.

I sometimes scrap with the great FREEBIES I get at Digital Scrapbooks and More! They give out a FREE Quick Page each month! (If you haven’t sign up for their FREEBIES – do it now – they give away lots of good digital scrapbooking freebies all year long!) How are you spending your Cinco De Mayo this year? Try these Digital Kits to scrap your Party!

How are you spending your Cinco De Mayo this year? I am hosting a fiesta at my house this holiday! I’m always excited to eat Mexican food (really now, who doesn’t love Mexican food?!!), but Cinco De Mayo is the perfect excuse to chow down on tacos, burritos, fajitas, nachos… and Margaritas!

Although I’m hosting the party at my house, I’ve asked each one of my guests to bring their favorite Mexican food or snack. It’s really made it quite easy to host, actually, because I don’t have to cook the entire meal and provide all the snacks for all the people! With all my friends pitching in and bringing a dish or side, I won’t be stressed out at all pre-party!

I do want to provide a few snacks though, and I’ll definitely have some tortilla chips and salsa out and ready for my guests, but I want to dabble with a new recipe or two as well.

I signed up to make drinks and I’m also thinking of trying out this fun Mexican adult beverage recipe that I saw at Martha Stewart website! It looks delicious.

Because I’ll be testing out a new recipe or two, I’m going to add my favorite recipes to my Cinco De Mayo party scrap page.

One of favorite things to do is to not only snap a few pics of me and my friends at our get-togethers (which is most important!), but to also take photos of the décor and food!

I use these food-shots later and include them on scrap pages and add the recipes on the side. It makes for an adorable digital scrapbooking page, and also helps me keep track of my favorite recipes and when I used them or first tried them!

My friends always ask me for a copy too. It’s a clever way to personalize special moments and special recipes. I can email the the Digital Recipe Book I make too! I’ll be using the Fiesta Party Digital Scrapbooking Kit 3 to scrap my Cinco De Mayo food and drink recipes. All I do is add the recipe’s text to the adorable, Mexican fiesta-inspired recipe card and it’s done! Too cute.

I love these new Fiesta kits and will be making my very own Cinco De Mayo stickers for the kids! Taking the Fiesta Party Scrapbooking Kit 2 (or any of the kits) I just digitally scrap the digital embellishments on a white background page and print out on a piece of sticker paper… And waaaa-laaa!

The kids can cut out the stickers and put them all over drawing paper, their paper plates, their clothes or sombrero… Haha, you name it! Another way I’ll be providing more fun for everyone, affordably!

Even if your family background isn’t Mexican you might want to join the fun and have a Cinco de Mayo party anyway.

Teaching children about other cultures was an important teaching moment for my family and we had a lot of special memories around celebrating others traditions.

Like Saint Patrick’s Day and Chinese New Year, Cinco de Mayo is a wonderful opportunity to expose children to other cultures and traditions. The brightly colored costumes, Cinco de Mayo crafts, street music and festival-inspired foods are easy to re-create at home.

Celebrating Mexican heritage with a Cinco de Mayo party? Then you won’t want to miss the fun party piñata activity! Learn more with these piñata resources!

Make a Piñata: Piñatas are a lot of fun to make and can be prepared quite a while ahead of the party. A favorite Cinco de Mayo party activity is the hitting with a bat a piñata that is filled with coins, candy, toys and other special treats. Each child takes a turn swinging at the piñata with a bat, trying to release the goodies inside.

First, to make a Piñata you need to know how to make Paper Mache ~ see Instructions on How to make Paper Mache

Next, pick a type of Piñata like, here are a few ideas:

A popular party piñata design is the donkey piñata, which is typically covered with brightly covered tissue paper. Try making it or other piñatas with the designs above or one of your own.

Have a Home Mariachi Band! Mariachi bands traditionally consist of trumpets, violins and guitars, but any music-making instrument is welcome in a home-band!

Trumpet: Decorate paper towel and toilet tissue rolls and toot away!
Guitar: Decorate a tissue box, wrap 6 rubber bands of different sizes around it and strum at the open end. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by making and decorating this fun mariachi foam guitar.
Maracas: Fill plastic Easter eggs, a plastic container or a coffee can with dried beans, rice or crayons and shake. Paper Lunch Bag Maracas What could be more fun than making great noise-making maracas from simple paper lunch bags and rice? This timeless idea is fun for all ages.

Get Festive!
When you’re a kid, any excuse for a party and decorations is a good one!

Kids can create a fabulous sombrero and chili-themed paper garland to decorate the walls during a Cinco de Mayo fiesta.

Make Paper Flowers with tissue paper. These flowers make lovely table centerpieces or great hair accessories. To make, gather 4 pieces of any color tissue paper. Take the stack of papers and fold them in half, then fold back and forth to make a fan shape. Wrap a long chenille pipe cleaner around the bottom of the folded edge, about ¼” from the bottom, to form the stem. Gently tug each layer of paper to separate it and form the petals. Make a whole bouquet and display them on your table in a can, jar or decorated water bottle.

Wearable Sombrero ~ Help your kids celebrate Cinco de Mayo by making this wearable sombrero. It’s a fun and easy family craft.

Scrap and Send a Personalized Thank You Card!

Send a Personalized Thank You Card for a special thank you to those that gave you gifts!

Now the holiday are coming to an end, you might want to have your child or your family send out personalized Thank You cards to those that gave you gifts!

Today if you look online you can find lots of great PDF Documents that can make fun digital scrapbooking supplies like a Thank You card!

Here is one way to make a Thank You Card using a FREE PDF document.

5 Steps to Scrapping PDF files:

Step 1: Go to the website that has the PDF document you want use in your scrapbooking project like scrapping a Thank You card, and save it to your computer.

If you are following along with this article go to FamilyFun.com’s Photo Thank You Frame and then save the document to your computer. Use the save button or go to File > Save

Save the document to a place on your computer that you can find easily.

Step 2: Next, open the PDF document in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Note: the following steps will work basically the same in Photoshop or Elements even though the demonstration will be focused on how-to in Elements

Next a pop-up in Photoshop Elements will appear, click on the document icon, make and select the settings and click OK

If you are using Photoshop instead of Elements, then you will do the same thing, click on the document icon, make and select the settings and click OK

Step 3: Select the Thank You card with the Rectangular Marquee Tool. Because the PDF Documents has some extra writing on it, and we only want the Thank You card using the Rectangular Marquee Tool in this example can help us select only the Frame.

Also notice that when this PDF is in either Photoshop or Elements the white areas are now transparent!

Step 4: Make a New Document regular paper size 8.5×11” with a white background.

Next take the Thank You card is selected, then with the Move Tool drag and drop it on to new scrapbooking document. or

Now your scrapbooking project should look like this:

Step 5: Scrap It and Print It! Add your photo, text, then print the Thank You card in your home printer. Fold it and write your own text in the inside. Put in an envelope and mail to that luck person!

It is fun to learn about using PDF files, and Thank You cards are also a great idea for a quick and very simple card.While this kind of card is cute, why not learn how to make better Thank You Card? Sometimes we want to make even more personalized then just taking a premade PDF file. For example, we want to scrap a whole card, using our special scrapbooking paper and embellishments. We might even want to know how to scrap on the back of the card and fold it properly. How about making 2 cards per US Paper size? What type of envelope do we use? Making Thanksgiving Coloring pages and Activities with Custom Brushes

Thanksgiving is definitely a wonderful holiday; tons of tasty food, good company, and even sports on TV!

And although this special American holiday is one that the whole family can be thankful for, it seems as though in today’s modern-society, that this holiday is focused more around adults and not as much around children.

Enjoying festivities that adults participate in, is always nice, but am I the only one that thinks this holiday is more adult-friendly than kid-friendly?

Think about it: On Christmas or Halloween, for example, so many of the traditions, games, or activities are centered around children; but not quite as many are aimed specifically at kids when it comes to Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving Day, there’s no magical, giant Turkey handing out presents to the kids because they have been thankful all year; no one I know participates in Turkey-egg hunts; and I have never seen my neighbors hand-out candy to kids dressed up as birds because it’s Thanksgiving…. Have you?

I do think that most children really appreciate and love Thanksgiving Day, but with all the other cool, kid-obsessed holidays out there, Thanksgiving has some tough competition! Here’s an easy-fix: By creating games, activities, and special Thanksgiving traditions specifically for your children, you can create a more kid-friendly Thanksgiving holiday this year.

Creating games and crafts to keep your kids preoccupied, busy, and happy is always nice while you are busy cooking, visiting, or watching the holiday games on TV.

Get your kids excited for this special day by participating in activities that match the theme of this special day! Create memories and create new holiday traditions this year!

Did you know that you can turn your digital scrapbooking custom brushes into your very own coloring pages for your kids? You are not alone… many people don’t know about this simple brush trick!

Creating games and crafts to keep your kids preoccupied, busy, and happy is always a constant challenges as a mother! It can be hard to think of new activities… in fact, it can seem like a full-time job!

But, Custom Brushes are definitely one of the easiest ways to create in quick coloring pages for kids. Coloring Pages made from custom brushes can save money and keep children entertained during Thanksgiving.

Using the same custom brush set (Thanksgiving Brush Set), I selected the cornucopia and turkey brush and “stamped” them on separate new documents in Photoshop Elements (or Photoshop).

I liked this brush set because it had lots of designs that were in outlines, perfect for a coloring page! After I “stamped” the Thanksgiving brushes out on my pages, then I used my home printer to print it out.

Just like magic, now I have a great coloring page to give to the kids!

Don’t forget the crayons!

This makes great coloring pages for kids to do while I prepare the Thanksgiving dinner!

After they are all colored then you can glue them on a larger colored paper and turn them into a place mat for Thanksgiving dinner too!

Also, if you want “stamp” a few extra on place cards and have the children color those too! That will make dinner fun and memorable, and in addition keep the children engaged and busy too!

Fall is in the air! Which means family getting together! Fall means family dinners and Fall means lots of yummy Apple Pies and wonderful apple dishes!

Everyone probably has their favorite apple recipe too!

For example, my favorite apple pie recipe includes fresh apples, cranberries, brown sugar, spices and pecans! This is such a earthy yummy pie and makes everyone excited when they get a chance to eat it. It creates great memories as the house fills with the wonderful smell of the spices and apples cooking in the oven.

Many bakers believe that a tart apple makes one of the best for baking.

Something tart, yet sweet and firm works very well in most apple recipes. My very favorite Fall apple for both eating and baking is the Jonathan Apple – both tart and sweet, middle of the road on firm and by far is a great hit in my apple pies! Usually the Jonathan apple only comes out in the Fall too – so you have to really watch for it’s appearance at your local store or farmers market or you will miss getting this apple!

Fall is so great as there really is so many ways to use apples too!

I am always on the look out for a good recipe! Or a unique way to use the fall apples! However, I am always losing my recipes after I use them! This year I want to make an Apple Scrap Recipe Book!

After I had gathered some basic apple recipes and several very interesting recipes, then I decided to scrap them and make a digital recipe book!

I thought that I could keep a copy of the digital recipe book on my computer, and print one out to keep in the kitchen every time I want to make apple dishes, also, I thought I would email my family a copy too!

Make Family Memories from Baking Apple Dishes!

Make your Own Recipe Book in 4 Easy Steps!

It is easy to make your own recipe book or page. Here is what you need.

A graphic program like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Also, you will need good digital scrapbook training for Photoshop or Elements.

Next you need digital photos of your apples, family, pie – or even the pie making process
Get some great Digital Scrapbooking supplies to make the basics of the scrap page, and to combine with your digital photos. In my scrap recipe example I took Apple Themed Kits and Supplies because they had great fall colors with Apple Designs, and came with recipe cards I could use to type my apple pie recipe on!
Print or send by email to friends and family – yes, it is that easy to make great digital scrapbooking recipes pages or books! As you are getting ready to send you kids back to school, you might notice all the FREE PDF Documents on the web to help make your back to school more fun!

You can find activities like worksheets to brush up on math before classes begin or to keep up once class starts!

Or get PDF Documents that are printable activities to color and cut out and use like pencil toppers, bookmarks and MORE.

For example of a Worksheet PDF Document, like this 1st grade math worksheet from Elementary Math Games

PDF Worksheets are helpful as they can be printed out and then your child can write on them and practice math, reading and other skills!

5 Steps to Scrapping PDF files:

Step 1: Go to the website that has the PDF document you want use in your scrapbooking project, and save it to your computer.

Step 2: Next, open the PDF document in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

If your PDF document has more than one page, select the page you want to open by clicking on it, and then click OK button.

Now that we have the PDF documents in Elements (or Photoshop) they can be scrapped.

Step 3: Select the frame with the Marquee Tool. To pick an item on the PDF document to bring over to your digital scrapbooking project

Repeat the process and bring over as many items from the PDF document into your digital scrapbooking project!

Step 4: Once the item in PDF Document is selected, then with the Move Tool drag and drop it on to digital scrapbooking paper or project.

Step 5: Scrap it! Finish your scrapbooking project!

Now we have turned this PDF Document into a digital embellishments that we can use to scrap, and make other Digital Scrapbook Pages, or other things like mouse pads, calendar pages, cards and more!

Have fun getting BACK TO SCHOOL, and enjoy turning PDF documents into great digital scrapbooking supplies!
