If you have been following along you know we gave lots of resources and ideas for Groundhog Day in yesterday blog article.
The article gave some good ideas for family activities to celebrate this fun holiday and it also gave some ideas for photo-taking and scrapping the holiday, even some ideas for scrapbooking kits!
So today I want to show you a little scrapbooking trick, how to add a extra strong shadow in your Groundhog scrapbooking projects!
Follow these 4 Steps to add a Dramatic Shadow to your Groundhog Day Project!
In 4 easy steps add a Strong Shadow to your Digital Scrapbooking Project using Photoshop Elements or Photoshop!
Step 1: Scrap your digital scrapbooking page and select the item to add a strong shadow too.
In the example above I have scrapped a digital scrapbooking page in Photoshop Elements.
Next I select this embellishment that is a image of a groundhog running from his shadow. Right now the image below does not have a drop shadow on it, so the image is flat.
Step 2: Select the layer and add a Drop shadow to this image or embellishment.
So, in the Layers panel select the layer (image layer) to add a drop shadow to (See #1 in the image)
Next, select the drop shadow from the Effects Panel and push the Apply button (See #2 in the image)
Then you will see and FX on the layer you just applied a drop shadow to (See #3 in the image)
What this does in Elements is apply a standard drop shadow.
Take a look at the next image to see the effect.
“Adding a regular drop shadow to the layer”
This does the following:
In the image above the regular drop shadow gives the image a 3-D effect and shadows go off the image a bit.
Step 3: Making the Drop Shadow more Dramatic!
Select the layer and click on the FX button
This will open a menu up that you can make adjustments to dramatically increase the drop shadow on your layer
Step 4: Set Drop Shadow Settings for a more dramatic effect.
For example, you might want to increase the Distance slider, and/or the Size slider to get a more dramatic shadow effect.
When you are done adjusting your drop shadow click the OK button!
Now the Groundhog can really run away from his shadow!!!
This same technique works in Photoshop too!
Add a Dramatic Shadow in Photoshop too!
In Photoshop it works much the same way, select the layer you want to add a drop shadow too and click the FX button at the bottom of the Layers Panel
Next when the pop up menu appears, adjust the drop shadow setting for dramatic effect.
(#1) Select Drop Shadow, (#2) use the sliders to create a dramatic shadow, (#3) you can see the effect on menu, and on the item on your digital scrapbooking project, (#4) when you are done click the OK button
Now you have a shadow worthy of a Groundhog in Photoshop too!
