If you have been following our articles, then yesterday we talked about how to straighten a photo in Photoshop Elements, however, that really doesn’t help Photoshop users. In many ways Element and Photoshop are alike but in
Photoshop you straighten a crooked photo using a completely different tool!
So if you have been interested in how to straighten a photo in Photoshop, then here is how to do that.
how to fix a crooked photo in Photoshop:
Step 1: Bring the crooked photo into Photoshop workspace.
Here I have scanned an old photo of my father and the final results is a bit crooked (see the image).
So now it is in Photoshop, and I can use Photoshop tools to straighten the photo.
Step 2: Select the Ruler Tool.
If you don’t see the Ruler Tool, then look under the Eye Dropper tool.
The Ruler Tool is usually behind the Eye Dropper Tool, just click on the small triangle and you will get a list of other tools
You can click on the Ruler tool in the tool bar or use the handy shortcut key I to get this tool
Step 3: With the Ruler Tool selected draw a line along the bottom of the image.
When drawing the line follow the crooked edge, this helps Photoshop know how to correct it.
Then you must go to the top option bar and click on the straighten button (#1)
If you don’t like your how you drew out the straighten line then click the cancel button (#2).
See how this image is level now? Photoshop has fixed the problem!
In my scanned photo, I have some extra white space around my photo that I will need to get rid of.
Step 4: Crop photo, if necessary.
I will use the crop tool to get rid of the extra white space around my photo.
When you have what you would like to crop, then double click to commit to your selection, and Photoshop will crop it.
Now my photo isn’t crooked anymore and doesn’t have the extra white space my scanner left around the edges.
At this point it would be good to save your photo. Tip: name this new photo something different from the original as not to lose the original.
I now could use my fixed digital photo to scrap with and make a digital scrapbooking page.
Depending on what you are hoping for you can scrap this new and improved digital image several different ways, with several different digital scrapbooking themes!
Once you have your photo straightened and cropped you can start scrapping with it and make lots of fun digital scrapbooking projects.
This helpful information about how to straighten an image in Photoshop, can really help when you need a crooked photo fixed fast!
Happy Scrapping!
