When I first moved into my current house, the yard was devoid of flowers, butterflies, and only thing that seemed attract to my yard was snails! It was all grass, and non-flowering bushes.
This would never do! Besides loving the look of flowers, humming birds, butterflies and dragonflies — I like a yard filled with fragrant smells too!

No garden should be without a selection of plants selected for their fragrance, 
color and bloom! Roses are an obvious choice, but they aren’t the only ones to consider ….For variation in foliage, perfume, shape, texture, flowers and colors. Think about planting flowers that will bloom throughout the seasons so you will have photos throughout the year for your digital scrapbooking projects. For example, azaleas and rhododendrons are excellent flowering plants for winter through to spring – giving color when many others are dormant or which are summer flowering.
Don’t just plant one variety of flower, mix them up for visual pleasure, and for more variety in your photos. For photo effects, plant in your yard but also have flowers in pots too! 
Another idea to consider is the Wisteria plant, it is probably one of the best 
fragrant flowering climbers there is – it can be used over an arch, across the entry porch, along a fence or on an arbor – this makes interesting photos with extra personality.
The best part about the Wisteria plant is that it has two flowering seasons, so more photo opportunities!
Clematis is another great flowering climber – and it can
cover a lot of eyesores like the old shed in the yard, or an ugly fence!
The Bougainvillea plant is a great and colorful climber and its thorns are as good as barbed wire if you want fence security too! So when taking photos – watch out for the thorns so you don’t get hurt while zooming in to the plant!
Lavender is another excellent plant for fragrance and flowers, and this plant attracts butterflies too – all a extra great photo opportunity!

Tips for attracting interesting visitors to your Yard:
Butterflies look for certain combinations of colors, shapes, sizes, fragrances, arrangements of blooms, and visible and invisible nectar guides them to find their preferred foods. To attract butterflies to your yard, just plant a pot or plot of some of their favorites, such as butterfly weed, cosmos, lavender, or zinnia. When you have lots of butterflies landing on your plants – your chances of capturing one of them for your digital scrapbooking projects increases!
You’re most likely to attract beautiful birds, like, hummingbirds to your yard if you plant a big pot or window box of easy-to-grow orange and red tubular flowers like salvia, fuchsia, penstemon, or nasturtium. This to can provide lots of great photographic opportunities right in your own yard!
