I think it is fun to cook Corned Beef and Cabbage on St Patrick’s Day, my family did this when I was a child and I did it for my children, and my daughter is doing it for her family now. ![]()
Even if you aren’t Irish it is fun to join in the fun and celebrate different cultures and what is easier to do that then cooking a few traditional dishes from different culture?!
I love to make this dish on St Patrick’s Day to have some fun – but also because the corn beef brisket used in this dish is so cheap around St Patrick’s Day how can you miss! I like to take the work out of it this dish by dumping it all in a slow cooker, flipping the switch and coming back when it is done! How simple! Plus, the longer you can cook the meat the more tender it becomes – so I think a slow cooker is just perfect for this and makes celebrating St Patrick’s Day a snap!
Here is my recipe:
St Patrick’s Day Slow Cooker Corned Beef and Cabbage
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup pre-peeled baby carrots
- 10 baby red potatoes (depending on size might need to be cut in half)
- 1-2 cup water
- 1 (4 pound) corned beef brisket with spice packet
- 1 head cabbage, chopped into quarters
Directions:
The other day someone called me asking for this recipe they thought that they would start this tradition in their own family. This got me thinking that I will scrap it up and email the recipe to her, instead of just typing it up in a boring email! What a nice gift and way to remember the recipe!
I was in a hurry so I just used a Quick Page from the Go Irish Green Quick Page Kit (a Quick Page is pre-designed scrapbooking page that someone else has done all the work!) So I just added a photo, my recipe, and to personalize it a bit this a brush from the St. Patrick’s Day Brush Set (see the red arrows in the image above? Those are all the places I added the brushes!)
After I was done scrapping it I turned this Recipe into a PDF page using Photoshop Elements and emailed it to her!
Because I had used a Quick Page that was US paper size – after she got this in her email she could print it out and add it to an ordinary binder! (If you would like to know how – get this training!)
She was delighted! And I was so happy to share this recipe with her and also with you too!
Hope you have a very Happy St Patrick’s Day! And, even if you aren’t Irish I hope that you try out a few things from this culture this month!
Enjoy!
