Need a little Herb Garden to Brighten a Snowy Day?

February 26th, 2010

Make a herb garden and scrap it too! Are you tired of the snowy weather and wish you could have a little green garden? How about an indoor Herbal Garden?

If you wish for summer and want a little bit of it even if it is snowing outside, you can plant an Herbal Garden to grow right in by your kitchen window!

The other day I was at the grocery store and I noticed in the produce department they were selling Herbs with the roots attached. I guess it was so the Herbs would stayFresh Herbs fresher, but it gave me a idea. I am sick of winter and wanted that garden fresh taste and smell in my kitchen.

So I bought a few of these herbs and brought them home.

I decide I wouldn’t eat them right away but plant them in a container and keep them in my kitchen window.

This proved to be a good idea as my kitchen filled with wonderful smells and it lifted my sprits right away.

Note: If you grocery store doesn’t have this type of fresh herbs with the roots attached you can plant herb seeds instead and have fresh herbs in the winter in your house too!

Container for my winder gardenI was so lucky as I found a old planter in my shed that would work perfect as a winter window garden.

It had three individual containers and I planted each of my herbs in one of them.

I was able to plant basil, dill, and oregano so my kitchen was very fragrant from the beginning!

I really liked how it looked in my kitchen and spring didn’t seem so far away with this nice indoor garden giving me lots of hope for spring!

Herbs Planted I will now use the Herbs as they grow. I will use the the dill on fish dishes, the basil on tomato salads, pizzas and more. I will use the oregano on chicken dishes and lamb.

So this got me thinking I should scrap a recipe book and share with my daughters and sister!

So I went to my Garden Digital Scrapbooking supplies and got started!

I scrapped a cover page and then I scrapped several of my favorite recipes I made with the fresh herbs. It is nice to have all the recipes written down to share with loved ones.

Scrap your herbs and recipes!

I then turned them into a digital PDF scrapbooking recipe book and emailed them to my sister and daughters too. (See How to Make a PDF Scrapbooking Album using Photoshop Elements 8 training)

I figured they might enjoy a little bit of spring in winter too!

I could even print out these pages and include some seed packets if I wanted to turn this into a physical gift!

Wow – this was a great winter project and really brightened my day!

If you are having winter blues you might want to try growing a fresh window herb garden. Then take photos of your herb garden, the dishes you make from your fresh herbs and scrap them and the recipes to give to family and friends – share the love in the winter months!

Enjoy and happy scrapping,

Cheri
