If you are like me then most of your closet is full of albums of printed photos. Yes, you still might have the negatives but what good does it do, if you want to do digital scrapbooking! Or if you have a disaster like flood or wild fire, and you need to leave your truck loads of photos behind in an emergency!
I few years ago I lived through a California wild-fire and almost lost my home, many of my neighbors did! I realized then that you just can’t pack all your precious photos quick enough. Since then I have been trying to scan my photos, so I could just throw a couple of Photo CDs in the car for a quick escape. Also, I thought of giving a copy to out-of-town family so if I didn’t even have time to pack my CDs I would be covered in an emergency and still have a backup of my photos.
Scanning isn’t to hard .. I have written a few helpful hints about scanning if you would like to look these articles here are the links below:
Article 1: Getting Photos from a Scanner into Photoshop Elements
Article 2: SCANNING TIP! The Perfect Resolution for Special Photos
Article 3: How to Scan Multiple Images and Divide Them in Photoshop Elements
These article are very helpful for learning scanning tips. And while scanning is not difficult it is very time consuming!
I wish I had a large scale scanner like my brother does at his work where he can scan hundreds of photos at time. To bad he doesn’t live close!
Anyway, I have been searching for some way to get my photos scanned and I came across this ad for an online scanning company called - ScanCafe. They say that a the typical American has 3000 old photos and each photo would take about 7 minutes to scan, so that it would take a whole year of weekends to scan this amount of photos by ourselves! I have more photos, so I bet I will be scanning every weekend for the rest of my life!!
No wonder I have been feeling the task is too large for me!
This got me thinking – I could try this online company and have them help me scan my photos. But one thing about this that worried me — since I have to mail my photos to this online company to use it. My photos could get lost or damaged in the mailing process. So, I wondered if I might find a company that was local that could do it here in my hometown, and not risk the mailing part.
Then I could physically take my photos to a local company, and go and get them back with lower risk of traveling damage. So I started my quest with a short internet search, and actually found several possible companies in my own city. One question that is good to ask when you find a local company is if they do the scanning on site or if they mail out to a different location. If they mail to another location then you have the same risks as before with possible damage or loss because of mailing.
If you, like myself, are feeling overwhelmed with all the scanning of old photos, and really want to get your images to go digital then you might be happy to know that there are companies out there that can help! Take a look around and you might find a quicker way to go digital!
Hope today’s blog – saves you some time!
Have a very nice day,
Cheri
