Check out her Free Advice and Tips: Question about Layers in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements

Question: Dear Ms. Digi Know, Does having lots of layers within a digital scrapbooking project affect the software performance of Photoshop?

Sincerely, Lots of Layers!

Answer: Hi Lots of Layers, If you have lots of layers in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, it can actually slow down your program’s performance! Working with large files can also slow down Photoshop or Element’s performance. Files quickly increase in size as you add multiple layers. Each layer you add can increase the file size by the amount of the original image, depending the items on each layer. That means that a project with 2 layers can be up to 2 times the size of the same image with one layer. And if you have more layers than that, think ofhow it multiples the file size!

To manage layers in your files more efficiently, merge (flatten or simplify) them when you no longer need to edit the layers individually (from the Layer menu, select Flatten or simplify Image).

Lots of hugs,

Ms Digi Know

Find Out About WordArt in Digital Scrapbooking!

Question: Dear Ms. Digi Know, I have been wondering… what is WordArt? I see it often within digital scrapbooking terminology and I just don’t know what it is exactly?

Sincerely, Wondering

Answer: Dear Wondering, WordArt is ready-to-use graphics of words- like titles or phrases. They are usually saved as  a PNG file format at 300 dpi for high quality printing. Because they are graphics, they are not editable like regular text, even though they might look just like text.

The great thing about WordArt is that they are usually words or phrases that have complex designs, a designs that may not be easy to duplicate just using the text tool! That said, someone has done all the hard work, and you can just drag the predesigned word-graphic to your digital scrapbooking page for instant cuteness!
