I made a trip out to San Diego to visit my family and I was able to meet up with my best friend while I was in town. I’ve known Sarah since she was in 2nd grade and sometimes it’s so hard to believe that my best buddy is actually a Mom!
I don’t have children of my own yet, but she has two precious little boys (one is 3 and the other is 4 years old), and man, do they grow fast! They look completely different each time I see them! It’s actually a bit depressing, because I only see them once or twice a year and for knowing Sarah so long, it seems so wrong to not know them as well as I know their Mom. I feel like I barely know their little personalities and I hate it!
That said, I was especially excited when I was able to interact with them during my visit. And let me just tell you… those kids are ALL boy and high energy! If they weren’t running around, they were doing jumping jacks, lunges, summersaults, and I think I saw one or two cartwheels. They had so much energy, it was amazing.
Because it’s so rare that I see Sarah’s kids, I whipped out my digital camera and was determined to get a lot of good shots before they grew another 5 inches. I must have take 50 or more pics, and I’m telling you, only 3 of them might have been clear. And mind you, they were clear photos, but no one was smiling, the boys weren’t looking in the camera, and the pics were shot from an odd angle. Yeah…
The rest of the pics I took of the boys were blurred with someone running, jumping, or dancing in them. I’d ask the kids to smile and they’d stick their tongue out at me, laugh, and then run away as my camera snapped the pic! It was definitely a photography challenge!
I looked back at my all my blurry photos of these adorable boys and was completely disappointed. But I still hung onto them. I’m glad I did, because after a month or so of letting them linger on my digital camera, I realized that what I thought would be shots lost and deleted could actually be saved with a little bit of creativity. I decided to use the kid’s movement as “action-shots” in my latest digital creation and save them by adding artistic filters. I was absolutely shocked by how interesting (and how much better) these blurry pics looked with just the click of my mouse! I was amazed that a artistic filter-later, the photos had been saved and looked as though they were artistic photos that had never been reject-photos to begin with!
You too might be able to save your kid’s blurry photos by adding quick and simple artistic filters to them within Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Digital Scrapbooks and More has a tutorial especially for Moms, Babies, and Toddlers all about photo editing called the Baby Series; one tutorial in particular within this series teaches all about adding Artistic Effects to your child’s photos!
The entire Baby Series Tutorial set is only $5.99 and includes 3 tutorial videos (removing red eye, converting photos to black and white, and adding artistic effects to photos- all baby-themed!) and 3 cheat sheets!
I was SO happy I could save these photos and use them as interesting pics for a Digital Scrapbooking Page. Sarah’s Birthday is coming up soon… what better then sending her a card or gift with her little boys all over it?!
Anyway, all in all, even if I can only visit Sarah’s kids once or twice a year, at least I could scrap a little bit of their personality!
Save your blurry photos too- try this photo editing trick on your own little active kids too!
Happy “Artistically Active” Scrapping,
-Jennifer
