More Kid-Friendly Summer Activities: Making Coloring Pages with Digital Scrapbooking Custom Brushes!
Creating games and crafts to keep your kids preoccupied, busy, and happy is always one of your constant summer challenges! It is hard to think of new activities, in fact, it can seem like a full time job …. and in some places (parks, hotels, etc.) it IS a full time job! It’s one that many people get with a paycheck!
So, how can a mom take care of her kids, all her busy “to-do” items, as well as come up with creative summer activities for the children? It is hard, we know, that is why we are going to give you a quick tip today!
If you have some digital scrapbooking custom brushes, you can “stamp” them on a regular, US-sized paper to quickly create your very own (inexpensive) coloring pages for kids to color!
Custom Brushes are definitely one of the easiest ways to create in quick coloring pages for kids. Coloring Pages made from Custom Brushes can save money and keep children entertained during the summer.
It is easy to make crafts such as coloring pages for kids by just using custom brushes in either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements!
Follow the 6 Easy Steps below to make coloring pages for you your children this summer!
Make a Coloring Page as a Craft Project Using Custom Brushes:
Step 1: Install a interesting set of digital scrapbooking custom brushes within Photoshop or Photohop Elements. Digital Scrapbooking Custom Brushes are multi-purpose in the fact that thy can be used to add digital design to digital scrapbooking projects, but also have adorable shapes that are great for creating your very own make coloring pages! You can buy Custom Digital Scrapbooking Brush Sets in our Scrap Shop. Another way you can get custom brushes for coloring pages is to make your own Custom Brushes from symbol fonts. If you don’t know how to use or install custom brushes, then check out this training for Photoshop or Photoshop Elements that teaches brush-basics and how to “stamp” them on your projects, as well as load them into Photoshop or Elements.
Step 2: Make a new document in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Set the setting at 8.5 by 11 inches, which is the regular US Paper size, and will print out easily within a regular home printer.
Step 3: Select a brush from your brush picker tool. Drag the brush as large as possible without extending it off the page. Now, “stamp” it on the page. Another way is to “stamp” the brush on several different places on the page, instead of only stamping one large shape on a single page. By “stamping” multiple times, you have several shapes that can be colored on a single page!
Special Note: When making your own coloring pages, use brushes that have lots of open, un-shaded areas; ones that allow children to color inside the lines. In this example, you can see that the clover and the turkey shapes are a great custom brush option because of their wide, open spaces. Children will be able to color easily within these spaces.
The design of the coloring page is up to you and your child… so get creative! In fact, design a whole book of coloring pages and bind all the pages together later! Also, you might have the child “stamp” their own brushes on the coloring pages… kids love computers and will love getting involved in “stamping” shapes that they’d be interested in coloring!
Step 4: Print out the coloring page (or coloring pages for a coloring book). If you want to make an entire coloring book, you can combine several pages of stamped brushes, add colored construction paper on the front and back of the coloring book pages, hole punch all the papers, tie pretty ribbon or yarn through the pages, and you have created a perfectly personalized coloring book for summer!
Step 5: Provide crayons, markers, color pencils, or even paints. As an extended activity, ask your children to write a story about the coloring page on the back or include some journaling. If the child is younger, ask them to tell you what you should write on the back (or front) of their special, finished coloring pages!
Step 6: Preserve the coloring pages and share them! After the coloring pages are made, scan the home-made coloring pages or books, and save them! Turn them into a digital scrapbooking pages or PDFs, and email the final creation(s) to family members and friends!
Not to mention, this is great way to preserve your child’s collection of artwork!
Let your children try this fun summer activity when they are bored and you need something to entertain them, keep them busy, and keep them having fun!
Happy Scrapping,
Cheri
