Beginning Digital Scrapbooking Lesson – Adding Text!
It really makes Digital Scrapbooking Pages special when you add your thoughts, journaling, notes or even just dates and places.
Once you add text to a digital scrapbooking page the whole thing changes – now the viewer can step into the world of the digital scrapbooker and understand more what is happening in the photo and digital scrapbooking page.
The text can be complex and tell a detailed story, or the text can be simple. Words draw the view into the the scrapbooking page and can have subtle or dramatic effects on the viewer of the digital scrapbooking page!
If you are new to digital scrapbooking or new to using Photoshop Elements, this blog article is for you! It will give you the basic step of adding text to a basic digital scrapbooking page in Photoshop Elements. (PS. it works basically the same in Photoshop too!)
4 Steps to Adding Basic Text to a Digital Scrapbooking Page:
Step 1: Open your Scrapbooking page in Photoshop Elements Editor Mode so you can get ready to add text to the scrapbooking project.
Or make a new digital scrapbooking page in the Elements workspace by adding the digital paper, images, and few embellishments.
(Note: To get help with making a basic digital scrapbooking page – please see our Scrap Shop for additional training such as the Getting Started Series for Digital Scrapbooking for Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.)
In the example, above we will put the text on the tag embellishment!
Step 2: Click on the Text Tool. Click on the Text Tool In the Tool Menu. And then you can set the settings of your text in the menu (see the red underlines above the large arrow). Choose the font, the size, and the color of your text before you start typing
Step 3: Write your Text. The Text Tool is now in effect – with font, size and color. So to get it started – Draw a box with your mouse over the area that you would like text to appear
Next start typing your scrapbooking message in the text box and the text will appear (See #1)
Step 4: Rotate your Text and Arrange it Accordingly in Layers Panel.
You can rotate text to fit the space accordingly (see arrow in red)
At the bottom of the text box you just drew, a little arrow symbol should appear.
Left click your mouse and drag the text in the rotated direction that you would like it to appear on your digital scrapbooking page.
This is a great tip so you can make the text tilt like the tag does so it looks like the text is written on the tag and then tilted!
Now your text should be placed on the digital scrapbooking page! Now that you have tried this easy way to add text – try journaling or writing more text on your next Digital Scrapbooking Page!
Hot Text Tip: Sometimes when we are new to digital scrapbooking or using Photoshop Elements we type out our text but can’t see it on the screen!
Make sure that this Text Layer is in right order in the Layers Panel, coming above the digital paper and any other embellishments, or your text may be hidden underneath other layers!
Now you are done and can save your digital scrapbook page with text!
