Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunts ~ Make One for Your Kids!

April 9th, 2009

Easter Egg Hunt invitation made from Digital Scrapbooking supplies My daughter, Brea, brought home an invitation to a neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt this past weekend. This brought back a rush of memories of the fun times Easter has brought to our family. My older kids always were invited to an Easter Egg Hunt that the neighborhood scouts put on. Then when we moved to a new neighborhood I continued the tradition and my husband and I put one on. Now a new group of cub scouts has stepped up to take on the responsibility and I am so happy to see the tradition continue. This tradition is so much fun around here that I thought I’d share with you how we organize it so that you can start your own neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt.

Two weeks before the event we print up fliers on a fourth of a piece of paper and staple a rubber band to each one. Then we deliver them to the entire neighborhood making sure to include each home, we specify that grandchildren and relatives are always welcome. The rubber band makes the invitation easy to hook on to a door handle so you don’t have to knock on the door and you don’t have a lot of unwanted fliers flying around the neighborhood.

The flier states the date, time and place that the hunt is to take place and carefully describes how it will work. We have the parents bring one dozen plastic eggs for each child that will participate and enough candy to fill the eggs to a specified home at least three days before the planned date. Our older children really enjoy filling the eggs and in the case of our upcoming egg hunt the cub scouts will have a blast working on filling the eggs.

Using Digital Scrapbooking supplies for Easter scrapbooking We always provide several dozen extra eggs so that any unexpected guests will be welcome. The morning of the hunt we mark off areas according to ages and identify the area for example for the 1-3 year olds, or the 4-7 year olds. Everyone excitedly gathers together, we welcome them and explain that each child should pick up one dozen eggs, and off they go. We always have an egg-stra great time and I hope you will too.

Easter is a great time to set new goals, to remember the purpose that we as individuals are striving for in life and appreciate the beauty of the earth that is blossoming with new growth. May the joy of spring and new beginnings it brings fill your home as you celebrate Easter this year.

Have a very Happy Easter!
