I can’t help but reflect on how much I really enjoy my job when I browse through my pictures and see the adorable faces of the kids I work with smiling back at me. This was the case as I went through the pictures that I have taken the last couple of weeks at the elementary school where I work.
My position at the school requires me to write reports about and take pictures of the activities that I am involved in at the school. So this past week I spent some time in a second grade classroom helping with one of my favorite annual activities. We painted Martin Luther King “I Have a Dream” T-shirts
This is one of my favorite activities for a number of reasons. The children have studied Martin Luther King prior to this activity. It is good to know that these sweet little ones are being taught about freedom and what it means to so many people of different backgrounds in our country. They are taught that just as Martin Luther King had a dream, that each of them should have a dream for their future.
After learning about Martin Luther King’s Dream the children are asked what their Dreams would be. Listening to their dreams is my favorite part of the activity. One little girl proudly proclaimed to me that her dream was to be a Vegetarian. I helped her write “I have a dream to be a Vegetarian “on her shirt. It wasn’t until that night when I was thinking back on my day that I realized that the kids on both sides of her had said that they wanted to be a Veterinarian. Hmmm….chuckle, chuckle.![]()
While Martin Luther King’s Dream was important to our whole society, had great impact over the course of time. His dream was very big and in the end has become so meaningful to so many people. It is also good to remember that it is important to start dreaming … even if we start with smaller dreams, and ones that are more personal in nature.
So I to have started making my own dreams, one of my dreams has been of learning more and developing a new hobby of Digital Scrapbooking. This dream has come true over the last year as I have learned how to do digital scrapbooking. Dreaming takes more than just making a goal or wishing for something. It takes some action too! So, I have watched Digital Scrapbooks and More’s tutorials and read their Step-by-Steps to make my dreams come true. These products as well as their Cheat Sheets and scrapbooking kits have helped me scrapbook beautiful, fun, and creative pages. It also is very useful to me in my job at the school. I have really enjoyed scrapbooking the activities and the children that I have caught on camera.
What is your dream? As you work toward it, remember to capture it on your digital camera. Then when you have accomplished it, I’m sure that you will have just as much fun scrapbooking it as I have had reaching my dream to be a digital scrapbooker.
Keep on Dreaming,
Denise
