The kids couldn’t wait any longer and my husband and I had a couple of hours this afternoon and so we headed to the mountains. Our anticipation mounted as we started to see the beautiful colors come to life as we came closer. The mountains around our home are so gorgeous this time of year.
We picked leaves and took a few pictures, put the leaves in bags and drove home. As we drove I tried to decide what we would do with the leaves that we had picked this year.
On the way home we stopped by the
garden that I had planted this year at my parents home. I picked one of the smaller pumpkins and some of the yellow squash that would freeze tonight if I left it on the vine. Then the ideas started flowing. My kids started picking more leaves up from around my parents’ yard and I had a memory come into my mind. We loved to press leaves and flowers when we were kids but I don’t think that my younger kids have ever done that with me.
When we arrived home, I put the cinnamon rolls that had been rising into the oven. Then the crafting began. First I cut the top off of my perfect, tiny pumpkin. I arranged some fake flowers from an older table center piece into it and set it on the little table on my front porch. Then I took some of the cornstalks from the garden and arranged them in an empty flower pot behind the chair on the porch. I went inside where my kids were painting faces on the yellow squash. They were having so much fun mixing colors and designing their own silly ghoul.
My son took some of the leaves and Snake Grass that we had collected and put carefully placed them into the pot left empty by the fake flowers and "wa la"… a new arrangement to update our fall decor. My little girl then took her favorite leaves and put them in a book that she can later take out. We will place them between two pieces of clear contact paper and make place mats
It seemed to be a perfect fall night when we took the cinnamon rolls out of the oven and frosted them. They disappeared in about five minutes and the kids were off to finish their homework. I wish I could freeze nights like this in my memory forever.
Maybe I Can! That is what digital Scrapbooking helps me do!
