It is almost Valentine’s day and maybe you are thinking about making and sharing some Valentine cookies?

Or maybe you would like to make a whole recipe book and give it as a gift for Valentines day?

Or maybe you just want to preserve your own special holiday recipes and memories in a Valentine’s Recipe Book?

If so here is 3 Steps on how to do it:

Step 1: Get some digital scrapbooking supplies that can be made into a Recipe book or just print one page at a time to give away as a gift with your cookie plate. Turn your Recipe Page or Book into a PDF that you can Email!

Another way you can process your recipe book or page is to turn it into a PDF file and email it to your friends and family – this saves money and gets your recipes out to your loved ones quickly!

Today is Super Bowl 2010!

If you have been following along with our blogs, then you know that in yesterday’s article (The Super Bowl and Digital Scrapbooking), we told you about how to get the logos and icons for the Super Bowl 2010 and the teams logos and icons too!

We also mentioned how you could scrap these icons with your digital scrapbooking supplies and showed you some some supplies that looked great to use with Super Bowl projects. And we gave some great links in this article for Super Bowl food! If you didn’t see this article read it now!

Today Capture the Kids on Super Bowl Sunday!

In today’s blog article we want to talk about capturing the children before and during the Super Bowl as these make precious memories!

If you look around before or during the game you will probably notice children getting ready for the game in the way children do.

For example, they may get out their football and throw it around the house. Hopefully not breaking anything!

They might try to dress up in the teams colors, put on a helmet, paint their face.

But whatever they are doing you might want to grab the camera and capture some of the action!  Children can be rather cute and can come up with tons of great ideas that have to be caught and scrapped!

Here are some Tips to capturing your kids this Super Bowl:

Tip 1: Get you camera ready the night before, make sure your batteries are recharged and put your camera in an area you can grab quickly.

Tip 2: If you have multiple cameras put them all out. If you have more than one camera put them in different places that you might quickly capture the kid action.

Tip 3: Look for your children dressing up.  Maybe they like to wear the team colors of they are cheering for? If so take photos! Maybe they like to wear a helmet during the game? If so take photos of that!  Take photos of all the dress-up they do on Super Bowl Sunday!

Tip 4: Take photos of them helping make the Super Bowl food or eating it! Children usually love to cook so add them into the preparations and take lots of photos to scrap later!

Tip 5: Take photos of other pre or post game activities – like children playing football in the bedroom, or outside.  Also take photos of other game day activities.

Tip 6: Take photos of the children watching the game!

Or not watching the game!  Put your camera on a tripod and if  you have a remote snap the photo when something comes up!

You might be surprised how many great photos you can get of your children and your whole family while enjoying the game!

Tip 7: Don’t forget to take photos of the family pet! These images really might be fun to include in the scrapbooking projects too!

Tip 8: Don’t leave your photos in your digital camera – get them out and scrap them! After you have gone to all the work to get great Super Bowl photos with your children, don’t leave them in your camera! Get them out and start digital scrapbooking them right away. Capture  the Kids Attention on Super Bowl Sunday with Coloring Pages !

Bonus Idea – A Craft Idea for Children:

Do you need to provide an activity for your small children while you are busy preparing food or so you can enjoy the game?

If so consider getting the Sports Brush kit to “Stamp” on pages and create coloring pages to keep children busy during preparations or while watching the game!

In a pinch brushes are definitely one of the easiest ways to create a quick coloring page for kids.

Here is how you make Coloring Pages for your Children

First, start Photoshop or Photoshop Elements and load your Sport brushes. If you don’t have these brushes you can buy them at the Scrap Shop.

To create a Sports coloring page, take the brushes that come in the Sports Brush Kit and load them into the brush tool. If you don’t know how to do this get brush training for either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

Next in Photoshop or Elements make a new 8.5 x 11 digital scrapbooking page so it can be printed out in a home printer.

Then adjust one of the Sports brushes so that it fits on the page, and stretch it out as large as possible without extending it off the page. In this example I picked the Football brush.

Note: Since the Sports Brush I have picked is more a filled type brush, than an outline brush I will need to make some adjustments if I am going to use this type of brush for a coloring page. So, I “stamped” it in a very light gray color so the children can color over the shape.  This will give them a guide as they color on the Football Coloring Page.

You can use other sports brushes to make other coloring pages too!

Next, print out your coloring page(s) and give them to your children to color.

Take photos of your children coloring them too!

Also, you might want to scan the coloring pages and include images in your scrapbooking pages!

Ps. the great thing about these sport brushes is you can also use them to decorate your digital scrapbooking pages too!  The possibilities are endless!

With Valentine’s Day only a couple of weeks away I always find myself in a little panic. I tend to wait until the last minute and find myself still wondering what in the world I can do to bring a little romance into our 18 year old marriage.

This year I thought ahead and I am so excited to present my husband with his gift this Valentine’s Day. So if you are still thinking about what you can do for your special someone, whether it is your husband, boyfriend, or children, this idea will work for you too.

You can use any pictures that you have to do this project. You can use pictures from years ago or current ones. I happened to adore some pictures of my husband and I that a photographer took of us this last fall.

These pictures were not posed which I love. We were trying to pose but got to laughing so hard at ourselves that we couldn’t pose. All the while the photographer was shooting away and he happened to capture the real essence of “us”.

My husband rarely takes times to look at albums I have made or even to look at the pictures on the computer once the photographer has sent them to us. But I know that he would enjoy and cherish these pictures just as much as I do if he had them in a place he could easily see them like digitally scrapped then printed and framed!

I wanted to put the photos on a really pretty background and frame them to put on our bedroom wall.

Once again I have turned to Digital Scrapbooks and More’s Scrap Shop to get training and digital scrap supplies to help me out with a project.

First, I took the digital color photos and with the Digi Makeover Converting Color Photos to Black and White training I learned how to change my color photos to Black and White for a romantic look!

After going through the training it was so easy for me to change all my digital images to black and white photos!

After I had converted all my photos to black and white, I got two scrapbooking kits that are found at the Scrap Shop  – The Hearts Scrap Kit and the Love Notes Digital Scrapbooking, I took different items from each of these kits and created a digital scrapbooking page.

I arranged the photos under the heart shaped frames. I added some embellishments, WordArt and I was done.

I used the techniques I learned in the whole Getting Started Series Training for Elements Users(lesson 1-6). I had learned from this training how to make a digital scrapbooking page from digital scrapbooking supplies. Then this training taught me how to save my digital scrapbooking page so I could edit it later or even save it in a format so that an online printer could help me print it out and put in a lovely frame!  (FYI: Get Photoshop Training too!)

Next, I after I had made my digital scrapbooking page and saved it in the correct format to send to a online printer, then I uploaded my scrap page to to Snapfish.com and had them print it and frame it!

It will absolutely brighten my husbands’ day to wake up each morning to see these pictures that are a reminder that though not every day is perfect, when we have someone to love and they love us back, we should be happy.

I wish each of you a Valentine’s Day that is full of the love that you give as well as the love that you receive.

Another endless day with too much to do and not enough time? If so you live in the same world that I do.

I run off to work in the morning, only after doing two 5:30 am paper routes with the kids and making sure they all get off to school with lunch and homework in hand! All this before 7 am!

Some days I want to go back to bed before I ever get started. Sound familiar to anyone? I am sure there are other parents out there that are busy too!

It doesn’t stop – after 7 am the adventure continues…….

Today I was met at the door of work by the schools secretary only to hear the stressful news that I had three volunteers call in today to cancel for one reason or another. First of all, it is so awesome to have really great volunteers at our school and second of all, I just am so impressed that they all had the dedication to call and let me know they wouldn’t be in. After all, they do live in the same busy world that I do.

However, having 3 volunteers absent left me in a lurch. Two of the situations were easy fixes but I had one class that the volunteer was supposed to teach an art hour to 5^th grade students. This is a tough crowd and not one that I wanted to fill in for and so to the telephone I went to call a mom that never lets me down when I’m in a tough spot.

Sure enough, she was willing to run on over and teach the class. The only problem was that her four year old daughter was going to be with her and would get restless before the class was over. So, instead of teaching an art class, I volunteered to babysit her daughter at the school. A fun task that I was more than happy to do, but now I needed a quick activity to do with her.

Now the question was “how to entertain a small child?”

I got some inspiration, since I only had my lap top computer with me I started Photoshop Elements, made a couple of new documents and loaded a couple of my custom brushes (the Happy Birthday Custom Digital Brush Set and the Layered Snowman Brushes)

I had learned about a great children’s activity using custom brushes to make coloring pages. I had learned about custom brushes  from taking the custom brush training and making the custom brush images into coloring pages from this article: More Kid-Friendly Summer Activities: Making Coloring Pages with Digital Scrapbooking Custom Brushes!

So with this idea of a quick way to entertain a child with only a laptop on hand,  I “stamped”  some balloons, and a birthday cake from Happy Birthday Custom Digital Brush Set on a couple of my new documents I had just created in Photoshop Elements. This is very easy to do in  Elements and could also be done in Photoshop. In fact it was so easy that you could as quickly just say,  “birthday cake” and in that same amount of time I had two coloring pages!

I didn’t stop there – I would need a couple of coloring pages to keep this little angel busy while her mom taught art class. So next, I loaded the Layered Snowman Brushes, this gave me lots of options. I could make a snowman with accessories or I could make basic shapes of a snowman family and have the little girl color in the details!

I decide to make both types of snowmen coloring pages as you can see above. Next, I printed off some copies of the these coloring pages made from custom brushes and printed them off.

The  Happy Birthday Custom Digital Brush Set and the Layered Snowman Brushes made great coloring pages for her to show her mom proudly. I was so glad I had such a quick solution to keeping a child busy.

When I printed all the coloring pages out, all I needed was some crayons to get her started!

While she was busy coloring the custom brush coloring pages I just made. I thought I better have another activity on hand in case she got done before the class ended.

So I got another idea from my digital scrapbooking supplies!

Lucky for me I keep some digital scrapbooking kits in a folder on my lap top computer.

So I got busy loading the Hearts Digital Scrapbooking Kit into Photoshop Elements.

It was so fun to use because I made a new document added some heart embellishments to the document.

It was just that easy to make! I only needed to print, to have another fun activity all made quickly from digital scrapbooking supplies.

When the little angel was done coloring, I gave her some scissors and then let her cut out the hearts and glue to put them on the colored paper.

Next,  I helped her write a love note to give to her parents and one for her brothers and sister. We had a great time together. I guess you could say we had our own little art class!

So when you find yourself in a lurch of some kind on a very busy day, use your imagination and maybe Digital Scrapbooks and More and there Digital Scrapbooking Supplies or Training can save your day as it did mine this time and on many other occasions as well.

Things are a little tight for me this year, and while I believe it’s important to keep our economy flowing as much as possible by spending a little here and there; now is definitely not the time to go hog-wild with spending money. So, with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, what’s a girl to do to give something nice to her Sweetheart without breaking the bank?

My solution is going back to the basics, and creating a special, one-of-a-kind digitally scrapped Valentine’s Day Card. Though gifts are nice, a lady on a budget (like me) should start with something simple, but heart-felt. What better way to express your love by creating something from scratch, and putting the time and effort into designing the look and writing the message?
